What if the coaches association votes Gary as section and state coach of the year? The school will not feel any remorse they will just continue to believe all the coaches like the families in the district are not as smart as they are. For him to keep the boat a float and competitive is a testament ...

I watched our best player annihilate some poor 3rd line player that found himself with the puck at center ice. Text book clean hit. The kid laid on the ice convulsing with a concussion, it ended his season. He was hauled off on a stretcher. The hit ended the play. It resulted in no goal. Our player...

East stops #8 they have the game. Benilde and ER (Twice) did not tie him up when it mattered most and paid.

#8 Drives GR, but drops off quick from there.

Deeper team wins --- East

Re: 7AA Semifinal: #3 Elk River vs. #2 Grand Rapids

Game Two of Semifinal Saturday at Amsoil Arena brings us another quality match-up. -This is, surprisingly, only the second playoff meeting ever between these two teams. Rapids won the first meeting 3-2 in 2006. -The two teams have played against each other regularly in the Edina Holiday Classic. Ra...

Top 4 seeds all advance. This section drops off significantly after the top 2. So it will be down to GR vs DE. I'm hoping for a change, and will root for GR to advance to state (in spite of DJ). Andover beats Cloquet in Cloquet very close to the end of the season and gets seeded two below. I ...

The deeply held belief in loyalty to team that is so pervasive in sports is the reason for the MSHSL transfer rules. Teaching kids (they are not young adults unless 18 the rest are kids) to live up to their word and not giving up is a life lesson parents need to teach youth so they do not go around...

Before the season starts or after the season concludes. End of discussion! All of us adults understand life isn't always fair. Correct? Completely agree withyou Tiger. Once you sign up you complete the season and you are not a quitter. You don't have to go out the next season, but once you start yo...

I am confused by the high schools response to the event. I am even more confused by the parents of the 13. It must not be as bad as it sounds. After the suspension "Crimson players hit the ice without helmets to cheers and applause from the crowd." Quote from the Trib. 13 guys get suspend...

[quote="karl(east)"]Duluth schools are closed tomorrow due to the bitter cold, so tomorrow's East-Flake game will have to be postponed or canceled. There are options for make-up dates; neither team plays again until Saturday, and they both only have one game in the final week of the season...

One thing I'd like to know, is who has the better fan base between Elk River, Forest Lake, and Andover? Which group would bring the largest crowd to Amsoil Arena on Feb. 23? No doubt it is Elk River. They have the best fan base in Section 7AA. They just don't go to games. Wow look at all the ...

Maybe +/- is a better stat? I love the +/- unfortunately the kids get recruited and in the paper for goals and sometimes assists. Having top lines is a coach's dream, but there are dynamics to manage the ego's (both parents and players). You have to have a strong coach and administration that lets ...

What a mess at the 2-4 spots. Elk Rivers loss to Rapids in OT was the biggest game of the season for ER in terms of seeding. If CEC loses to Andover it would logically put ER ahead of them based on beating Andover twice. ER would have to beat BSM to pass up Rapids for the 2 spot if Rapids loses to ...

[quote="old goalie85"]PuckU-I agree, I hate the drag the hand on the ground deal. If my kids do it they won't play the next game and they know it. Scoring should be fun enough. Get rid of the Lambeau Leap, no more jumping in the corners with teammates or towards the student section after a...

Elk River needs this to stay in the hunt for a 2-3 seed. This is resume building time for the seeding meeting and it seems CEC and GR may have turned a corner recently, CEC changing goalies and their lines a bit seems to have sparked them, and GR had a huge character building come from behind win v...

Re: Get a Clue MSHSL

Happyhockeyfan...I saw 1 game in maybe 15 where a 5 minute penalty was called after the rule went into effect, I saw it in 4 of 6 in the playoffs and in 3 of those 6 it went quite a ways into determining the outcome. In my opinion of the 5 calls 2 were good 2 were bad and 1 was a complete joke. If ...

I think your all imagining this horrible change in the game you complain about. I have seen probably 20 games of high school hockey since they started the 5 min major for boarding, Checking from behind and head contact and I have literally only seen it called 4 times. All four were deserved, all fo...
