Re: Hockey coach suffers traumatic brain injury

I remember when they first made the helmet rule. Some coaches got a petition going to fight the rule but it seemed silly to fight something that would save lives. I put it on and strapped it on. Glad I did when shortly after the rule came out I landed on my back and head while coaching squirts when ...

Teams are formed by youth association after high school tryouts. League is run by the Metro Hocky League, not the districts. If you have a son interested I highly recommend trying it. My son played though his high school years and was a great experience. If your assn doesn't form a team call one tha...

Elliott, I have coached many years and have now max'd out my level 3. I have decided to not coach this year for two reasons. 1. I think I needed a break, mainly from parents. 2. the time and money to get level 4 when I think it is totally unnecessary. I have asked at district meetings why coaches ar...

I am watching the stream of interesting game in st. louis park. Wayzata down 5 to nothing to Moorehead, but scored 5 unanswered in 3rd to tie it. Now in OT.

I was at the game and saw two of the instances and I don't think they were broken pucks, looked like each time an extra puck just came into play. the first one I think came out of the goalies pads (maybe stuck in there from warm ups and came loose) not sure about the other one. I've seen that a coup...

Looks like Trojans wear ccm pants and helmets, maybe that's why they are highlighted?
Players that don't have ccm skates or sticks might not get much on-ice camera time.

Quack: Thanks for the boarding rule definition. I saw a check the other night that fit perfectly the "Rolling" definition. Defenseman angled puck carrier into boards and checked him along boards using his hip/mid section. Player who got checked fell over but got right back up. Defenseman w...

I am old enough that all my mite games were outside. Although I can brag about how tough we were back then, some of the memories of standing in snow banks freezing my cojones off I can do without. Looks like dangerous windchills sat as well, not worth it. Good Luck however it works out.

Outdoor Jamboree is a great idea, just bad luck with weather. Because it is outdoor ice and they are mites the schedules should be open to reschedule on a warmer weekend.

What game were you at? Trojans haven't played since tues which was a 4 to 0 win. I haven't seen them play this yr yet, but their losses are by one goal to good teams. I think there two issues are 1. goaltending isn't quit as strong as last yr, 2. their big guns aren't putting pucks in the net. I thi...

Too bad you couldn't stay in Roseau. Motels and the whole town are very hospitable. The legion even gives rides home from the bar.

When in the Fargo area stay away from the Howard Johnsons.

My son's bantam team started a pp and pk unit about half way through last season. It seemed to throw everyone off and 5 on 5 play suffered. The team by far played their best hockey in the first half of season and in no way did it help.
High School is right time to start with specialty units.

Biggest concern they are saying? Because there is no checking through PeeWee's, first year Bantams really do not know how to check or have the experience yet and do nor know how to avoid the check when the other player turns to protect himself or the puck exposing his back to the oncoming player. h...

Granted a zero tolerance policy will get the defender in this case a penalty. The offensive player still has a resonsiblity to protect himself a bit more by not turning his back to a defender he knows is there, he had options as well. I agree it will take everyone some time to adjust and figure it o...

Wayzata vs Osseo. I am guessing this is the check from behind you are referring to. Open ice check, offensive player turned at last moment so knew defender was there. Last week this was no call now it is major plus misconduct? Luckily this penalty didn't result in a power play goal. Here is link to ...

I think this is a good proactive proposal to attempt to remove bad hits. How will the penalties be doubled? The bracket I have seen has OMG Crimson vs Hastings and Way Navy vs ER Black. The other games are correct.

I would give edge to OMG Crimson and of course an Edina team usually has a chance.
