And why does Giles make me think he's straight out of the Soviet KGB?
This is great. Cuz he is cold blooded and you can't hide that. Nice to see Curt lose.

A thread about Giles, oh fun. I acknowledge he knows hockey and can get his teams to win games. In that vein he is a very good hockey coach. There are plenty of people who will never agree that he cares about the players. Sure he can be chummy with players employing his dry humor. But there are plen...

Seriously, it was posted as a "fun fact". Hockey purists. Hornets vs. Lakers. Late 60s, early 70s. East of France vs. West of France. Kind of ironic after all these years. Poetic justice. No controversy at all. Some of you forum peeps are a little on edge. As I said, this year's team was phenomenal.

Just a little fun fact for Edina hockey purists out there. At least two of the champions are originally Minneapolis Southwest Lakers. Nice that Edina opened its borders. Regardless, nice run. What a dominant team!

Really sorry to say, Edina in a romp. The question is who will Edina play in the State Tournament Championship game. Poll that one.

You say important people see something in him, but I already knew that. I'm asking WHAT they see in him. Talent and hard work are not really answers. Hell, I'm all for an underdog. Just give me some ammunition here. He's a great skater? Strong on the puck? He's an able enforcer? He's got great hand...

There clearly are Iverson detractors here; this is not the first time someone feels it necessary to rip the kid. And I don't know why. You really think he is third line grinder. He scored over 100 points as a bantam. You honestly think that if he stayed at Breck he would be third line grinder? He wo...

Tigers, if you are reading some type of argument in my last post, I apologize for not being clearer. There is no argument there. Just stating some facts and wishing the boys well. Trust me, I take no position on the juniors vs high school question other than, it is up to the player and his family to...

Well, the boys from Minnesota made it to the championship game. This Sunday 6:00 pm the Portland Winterhawks play Halifax for the Memorial Cup. Whether you think it is right to leave Minnesota High School hockey to play in juniors or not, Bittner and Iverson [and Carruth] are playing in one of the b...

Holy smokes Tigers, did you even read my post? Relax about your impressive understanding of hockey. You honestly think that there are not one hundred kids who are as good if not better than your boys who are so happy to be on a 5th line that would die for those roster spots?

I generally agree with Exiled; I'm thinking I am saying the same thing. Bottom line, any player that wants to play D1 hockey is going to have to work his ass off. I always use Crosby as a good example; the guy is one of the very best in the world because he loves the details of playing hockey and he...

Livin.. From my observations, there is some level of arbitrariness on who gets the Division 1 opportunities. Who the family knows definitely helps a number of players. There are plenty of parents (mostly fathers) who market their sons every chance they get to whoever in the hockey world will listen....

Iverson not a scorer? He had well over 100 points as a Bantam A. His 8th grade year, he played D; and his 9th grade year, he played on a Breck team loaded with upper classmen, so he did not get alot of special team opportunities. Iverson will find his way and he will end up being the player he ends ...

Some of the games between Portland and Edmonton were televised on Roots Channel. Both Iverson and Bittner saw significant minutes as fourth and sometimes third line guys. Iverson perhaps a bit more than Bittner. Statistics do not tell the whole story. As a fourth line guy, Minnscout, you know there ...

The discussion on Minnesota High School Hockey vs Junior Hockey always results in a passionate debate. There was plenty of criticism tossed at Iverson and Bittner for leaving high school early. Right now though, it seems their decisions have paid off at least to the extent that they are playing in o...

Btw, a coaches job is not just to build a winning program. In the NHL, Juniors and College, perhaps yes. A coaches job in Minnesota high school sports is defined in large part by a written code of conduct. It is worth reading.

I keep thinking that I should get the last word here. Mr. Clarke, your certainty of opinion is quaint but not totally informed. If anyone watched the Class of 12 their junior year would know that they were perfectly capable of playing at a high level. Remember, they MADE the team. If you can critici...

You all make generally valid points. It is difficult to argue against the ways things transpired. History is history. It is easy for you to say that the kids that made the team must have been better because they made the team. Well, we all know that is not necessarily the case. And one key point tha...

Remembering Edina Class of 2012

Edina's team this season was loaded with high end skilled players and incredible depth that included a senior class with a lot of varsity experience. And as I've mentioned before, this season's team was pretty much set two years ago when the coaching staff made the somewhat unprecedented move of giv...
