Re: Development is YOUR responsibility

No, the best athletes are playing basketball or wrestling. Continue to make hockey inaccessible to 80% of the population. Development is a minor issue. If the kid can’t afford to even play hockey after the 4th grade development does not matter. Income does not equal talent. MN hockey better wrap th...

Re: BULLDOGS!

Mankato does it with smoke, mirrors, and good recruiting. SCSU sold their souls to the devil in TP. Minnesota will fail because their coach made that deal. UMD is well coached and well recruited, my hunch is that they are the gold star of MN collegiate hockey going forward. East Coast schools who do...

Re: 2019-2021 Section Assignments

The MSHSL has made it very clear they dont care about competitive balance they care about GEOGRAPHICAL balance. Then how in the hell do they split up Lakeville North and South? Geographically it makes some sense, I can hit a golf ball from South into a cornfield. 1AA is a SE Section, largely “rural...

Re: 2019-2021 Section Assignments

Tartan was one of the smallest AA schools in the last cycle, about 100 students above the cutoff. Looking at the schools below them and knowing Northfield moved up it is entirely possible Tartan is in class A by enrollment.

Tartan and North St. Paul are both in 4A.

They also have St. Agnes is 4A, I don’t think St. Agnes has hockey in nearly 30 years.

Re: 2019-2021 Section Assignments

Dodge County to 1A from 1AA Goldy’s wish has been granted! I know this fall there had been a lot of discussion at Kasson-Mantorville about dropping schools from their co-op. Most of the Dodge County players are from Kasson and Byron, the rest of the schools don't have players every year. Now, I bel...

Re: New State Tournament Format (or my day dream)

I agree actually. The number one option to me is to get more northern teams to opt up. After that I like leaving the sections basically mixed north/metro. I like having two chances for northern teams to make it even if it means there is a chance of no northern teams. To me really the biggest issue ...

Re: St Cloud State

Sats had his scorched earth policy come back to haunt him. He probably had Motzko looking over his shoulder and now he probably has the president of SCSU ready to fire the coaches and bring in Sats hand picked man.

Curious that Sats’ kids were all part of this......not really!

Not as bad as the Rodents losing to Holy Cross.....but two years in a row? Sats! What the heck? Choking again? Better get handle on those kids ! They have been the only kids to turn a crowd at the Xcel into a pro Edina crowd and now turned a pro SCSU into a pro American something University crowd? P...

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

Stang..... I wonder what would happen if we changed the A tournament to the smallest 64 schools in stead of AA to the biggest 64 schools. Hill Murray and Roseau would clearly be among the smallest 64 but they could opt up anyway. Given the F/R lunch exemption we already give Minneapolis, my hunch i...

Re: New State Tournament Format (or my day dream)

I guess I do not see what is broken. I like Pagestat but it has its limitations......for example why would any team in the top 30,outside of conference commitments, schedule a team like Tartan, Century, Hastings, StMA, etc.? The top teams will continue to schedule each other because they, in general...

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

I am the same way with LaPanta... I will watch the Wild on NBCSN but can’t on Fox. I am a hockey guy, we are killing ourselves with travel and cost. Renting a gym is cheap, renting ice is not. I am a parent of 4 boys, all started out playing hockey, the last two ended up on their high school wrestli...

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

Do you watch it? I'm curious because it has SO MANY DIVISIONS, which makes sense because every community has football and it is a massive state. No matter where you live a school nearby is in the state final at some level. A great spectacle for sure, but it isn't anything like the Minnesota HS tour...

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

Heck even in the NCAA wrestling will far outdraw hockey in terms of ratings and attendance.... how many nights are wrestling on ESPN vs hockey? Wrestling: 3, Hockey 6. Hockey for the win! Both are still relatively small potatoes, to be sure. I guess I do not get this, wrestling has been or w...

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

Opinion.....the Texas high school football tournament is now the best. Football doesn’t lose their “top” players to crap junior leagues. Hockey loses some players to the USHL or NTDP but still lose some to tier 2 and tier 3 leagues. Do you watch it? I'm curious because it has SO MANY DIVISIONS, whi...

Re: 2019-2021 Section Assignments

interesting news here. Is this a foreboding of possible bigger changes than expected? Yea, I am wondering this is well as I hear it went from an action item to a discussion item which I interpret as it is not a done deal. Maybe they are allowing some schools to appeal, it is an interesting developm...

Does anyone know when the section will be updated for the next two years?
The MSHSL cancelled the meeting scheduled for today and rescheduled it for April 3rd.

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

Lakeville/ North has made every section 1AA final since 2004. Century last made a 1AA final in 2009, they won it that year but were in the 1AA final 8 out of 10 years in that decade. John Marshall last made a 1AA final in 2005. Austin won a 1AA title in 2001, they haven’t been in 1AA since 2004 Mayo...

Breaking my fasting ban on social media here, but I will post only facts.... No Rochester or Big Nine school has been in a 1AA final since 2009. Only Farmington (twice) has broken up the North vs. South final in a decade. 1A has been wide open the last decade with MN River, East, Northfield, West, N...

Re: A and AA Enrollment Information

You can appeal your classification. Minnesota a River was initially assigned to the same section as New Prague and Eden Prairie. Minneapolis was assigned to an AA section. The appeal process is not defined by the MSHSL.....why can MN River, Minneapolis, and New Ulm opt down but Dodge County can’t?. ...

Re: Ideas that should be brought to the Minnesota Hockey Board

I brought it up when the issue first arose. But too many drinking the Colorado kook-aid. I will get. It on the agenda. This is a problem in youth/high school sports.....making a rule that benefits most doesn’t always work. Texas high school football essentially plays under a NCAA rule book, not a N...
