Announced that Wade Chiodo got the Rapids job
Great hire. I didn't have him on my short list necessarily, but the hire checks all of the boxes. Excited for the new coach!

Re: 7AA 2019-2020

I can tell you from direct experience with a similar situation. A interim head coach could set the program back. If there is an opportunity to simply make a hire, that would be ideal.

Re: 7AA 2019-2020

Some thoughts from a elite Grand Rapids hockey mind: They MUST hire for stability. Say what you want about Bruce LaRoque, but he was consistent and was in it for the long haul. These constant 2 year stints by coaches and a somewhat revolving door on the assistants side are not good for a storied pro...

Holum is the best hs goalie that I have seen in a long time, he could be a diamond in the rough for someone who takes a shot on him. He was the second best goalie on his team last year. So this is an overstatement. That said - he is the best goalie in the state right now. He shouldn't have just bee...

Not that it matters, but I absolutely love having Elk River in 7AA. Makes the section deeper and more dynamic. And they've only come out of it once. :D

I will also add that the web presence has definitely gone south. Not sure why that ever changed but Bobber had a nice site going for sure. I think most people would agree with that. OK. The title to the post made me look at the thread. If the old site was that good and followed that closely make it...

Re: For GR Fans Only

Hah, that subject line ought to insure the haters and envious are compelled to look! A couple things. First, a pleasant reminder during this disappointing season. My AA state tournament season tickets arrived a few weeks ago. The consolation bracket tickets have very nice pictures of Spuds players....

I know. Its CEC not Grand Rapids.
Grand Rapids shouldn't be the topic of any thread right now.

Blake would have helped but I don't think this game would be much different. This Edina team would have been a problem for last years Injun team in my opinion. I know I’m going to catch flack for being the PC police, but can we please stop with the use of this term on the board? “Injun” has long be...

When I played ACHA M-1 hockey at NDSU, we were tied 6-6 after overtime in a game and the refs and coaches decided there should be no shootout. Rules were a 5-man shootout. Home team got fined a few hundred Benjamins. Not sure if the MSHSL fines schools for violations or what not, but there should b...

I'm not going to bash Klatt, but I think he had something to do with the success. To discount that completely seems foolish. With that said, coaches get way too much blame when a team struggles and way too much credit when a team succeeds.

I am sure he is learning that there is a lot more to coaching a high school team than showing up for games and practices. Nice guy but he was given an empty tool box. Being slightly displaced from GR hockey over the past couple years now... is Nuch locally liked/respected? I saw an on camera interview and I wasn't impressed. Didn't seem fair to judge based on that, though.

We talked about how sad it is that the Iron Range teams have depleted and that the e-commerce and population shifts have entirely changed the landscape of hockey. Consider this: Eveleth used to play the same teams as Grand Rap...
