False! PHM did no recruiting. Fake news!! OK Johnny Trump. You're like a parrot. Hermantown boys and the Mirage has been recruiting for years. Like I said you even tried taking a couple of our girls a few years back. Did those 7 girls move into the district? No of course not. Now that the silver sp...

Hermantown has been doing it for years for both girls and boys. The mirage team a few years ago had 6 or 7 they stole from Duluth. A couple of forwards a couple d and their goalie. They tried to get one or two of our girls from Cloquet too. That team went to state and Duluths team went to the outho...

After watching Hermantown beat Luverne 2-1 the other night I came to this conclusion. Either Hermantown has become bored with the A tournament and were uninspired, leading to a lackadaisical performance or maybe Hermantown is just not that good

Obviously, the ELEPHANT in the room is Blake. The conversation comes up each year how they should elect to go to Class AA. The girl's hockey world is not that big so it seems that public opinion has zero sway on the perverse attitude of the Blake administration &/or parents who revel in their team'...

a lot of assumptions thrown out here on why Klatt quit. Maybe he quit because he didn't have time, just like he said? What is the big deal? Time to move on. All the speculation about he drinking incident is getting old. And to put this on Klatt is ridiculous. The incident took place last summer. How...

I don't hear anyone saying he is a bad guy. The issue is many feel he is selling the program short and can/should compete at the AA level. To say that he is a great coach I won't disagree, although I will say a monkey could have coached this year's team to a class A state title. Also, they will have...

More from Plante's article. Plante all along has maintained the Hawks don’t have the numbers to consistently compete in the larger classification. They have good players; they don’t have enough of them. Really? Seven straight years in the State Championship game all along playing a AA schedule until...

More Plante Quotes from the New Tribune article, “Some of those other teams did the same thing,” Plante said. “Like when we played St. Thomas some of those years, we played our best game of the year. Some of those games, St. Thomas was way better than us. We took them into overtime and we played som...

Hermantown has gutted the Twig program. Many of the Twig parents (Pike Lake & Saginaw area) wrestle with the difficult decision of moving schools by the fourth grade in fear that their kid will get left behind in hockey. Yes, this is not recruiting, but sad that as a society we have become so obses...

Quote from Plante today in the Duluth News-Tribune about coming back next year, “I haven’t decided yet,” the 67-year-old said Tuesday. “We’ll see if these guys are coming back; a couple of them will have an opportunity to go to juniors. We’ll see what they want to do. If we get most of the team back...

I don't think Hermantown High School has any say in what happens with mite programs. I am not saying they do. My point is that families are gravitating to Hermantown at young ages and many solely for hockey. This is why the Hermantown small enrollment argument does not hold water for me. Families a...

How many people in twig? 30 come on we are not talking metro numbers here. I can remember Bloomington Jefferson having over 300 kids trying out for bantams. 30 kids out of a program of 70 is nearly half the kids. This is pretty significant. 30 kids is enough to make 2-3 more mite teams. That is als...

The first guy out of the gate this morning flashed an awesome Tarzan flow. :D Tarzan flow. Love it!! That even brings us back to the 70's. I know now why there were so many upsets in the sectional tournaments. Conspiracy!! Too many of them had short hair and could not compete for the all hair team....

Hockey hair

I know it is fashionable to try and make the all hair team, but am I wrong? Are the mullets coming back? I swore I seen a few. Plus some great 80's staches. All I need now is for Neil Broten and Jon Casey to skate out.

The AA final was great and an example of how the section finals are suppose to be played. Great excitement with the outcome in doubt until the final few seconds. Grand Rapids (Class A team that opts up) and the entire community are jacked about heading south. I thought East was very gracious in thei...

I actually like the system that is set up now. The "A" tournament is a good tournament if teams that should play in it do. Actually, if you take Blake out of this year's tourney it would have been a great tournament. there would not have been a huge discrepancy with the other 7 teams with all having...

In '99 Montana and Company was up big in the Super Bowl against Elway. It might even be the the widest margin of any SB. Anyway, they left Montana in and he threw his 5th touchdown, a record that still sits in the record book. I watched it, and it was fantastic. Nothing wrong with it at all IMO. Eh...

The "what ifs" are what summer and triple A hockey is for. An opportunity for some of the top talent play together. Not for an A program to attract those top players and then play down in competition.

Keeping your studs in the game when the score is 8-0 to chase individual records is what is wrong with youth sports today. Enough said on that topic. Does one throw their gloves and sticks in the air in celebration of an 8-0 win? One would think it is a bit anti climatic. As a parent or coach I'd wa...

8-0. Who cares about individual records or getting their seniors on the ice. All they did is turned more people against them. I just don't see what fun it is to win an A title when they have no competition.

Blake

Congrats on your state championship. Now time to move up to Class AA. Looking at the skill of the 8th and 9th graders on this team it will be a travesty if they stay in A. The A tournament already has enough disparity and it will be unfortunate if Blake continues to play down. I just do not see the ...
