@Almost Don't mince my words. Not once did I explicitly say, or imply, that only drafted players have the opportunity to play hockey. You did however, do an excellent job of twisting my quote out of context. But answer me this. If you intend to play in the NHL, if that's the pinnacle of a hockey ca...

If the athlete already has a college commitment, I see almost no reason to leave early.

Sorry, didn't know that. Anyone know where he's going next? @auld_skool US National Bandy Team. After the season ended last year he was asked to workout with an NAHL team but declined. The path for goalies after high school is crazy (just look at Fons, Shibrowski, etc.). Anders did not want to go d...

Should we just assume there are about 20 players/families in any given year that will not be happy with their current situation in MN HS hockey? Yes. I disagree. I'd say there are about 20 kids that are willing to leave. Trust me, there are lots more that aren't happy but they stay, mainly due to h...

I'd certainly be curious to hear a different take, no matter how long it is. A couple quick things right off the top of my head. I think the mission of the Elite league needs to change. From doing whatever it takes to keep the very top kids in Minnesota (who generally don't need any help anyway) to...

karl, a very well thought out post. The league would be wise to take your suggestions into consideration. I have a ton to say about this but it would be so long no one would want to read it. To the OP: You're right about why the league was created. I think it's time to decide if that's a worthy goal...

Re: leaving early

Good luck to Sean Lang of Apple Valley. He's a first-class kid with great parents who do well keeping things in perspective. Coulee has a great reputation in the NA. +1. Hats off to him for having the courage to follow his dreams. As a '94 senior he'll have a much better chance of getting where he ...

IMO, it makes sense to give more MN kids some exposure versus
the Colorado Rampage.
Great question considering SSM is always in.

I agree. Unless it has something to do with MI Tech in particular I'd say all the Minnesota colleges really missed a good one. (Heck, so did the Wild in a way!)

Don't worry Bluewhite...that wouldn't have showed up with spell check. You spelled "no" correctly. Wside overreacted, but they do that out there at times.

This is probably the link that will show the USHL rosters eventually. http://ushl2011.stats.pointstreak.com/teamplayerstats.html?teamid=3135&seasonid=9358 Hopefully they'll start updating the pointstreak rosters soon. The League probably asks the teams that the rosters are accurate and up to da...

The USHL, and the teams, play the roster discussion close to the vest. Some teams have shared their roster but most have not. Some of the team websites are good but some are bad. The USHL website has potential but their communications director must take summers off. It's interesting. When you're on...

Re: Sam Wolfe will be a Cedar Rapids Roughrider

I am hearing from multiple sources that Sam Wolfe has made the 25 man roster for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders. Cool . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Who's that ? Very solid '93 D for Eagan last year, committed to Maine for the 2013-2014 season. Your Spuds beat them 4-0 this year in St Paul.

As for scouts in attendance, go to the first weekend and see for yourself to find out how many are there. Whether or not they network amongst each other I can't speak to. I believe he was referring to scouting before the teams are selected, not the scouting that takes place during Elite League play.

I believe you when you say that scouting is broadly based. SELECTION however is not.

No Minnesotans. Anyone know where the two Pieper's are playing this fall? 13 newcomers which is a big reload.
They both made the final 30 at Indianapolis in June. Both had a really good camp.

A tip for anyone interested. If you have a kid that you think has special talent It’s up to you and your kid to develop within your own summer program. The Association model will not get it done… When my son was younger we used to call the winter the off season. Most development happens in the summ...
