Re: The $6800 question.
I would say plenty of kids open enroll for the education. I would actually say a majority go for eduction. I don't know what school you taught at, but if you look at statistics of just minneapolis kids who are open enrolling I don't think it is physically possible for them to all be doing this just...

People keep listing EP but they have been shrinking a lot lately. For example they only fielded 4 Squirt teams this year, and from what I understand they had to pull 6 or so Mites up to fill the 4th team. At the Mite level they have 2 upper, 2 intermediate, and 4 mini mite teams. That doesn't sound ...

Ice Arenas are expensive to operate. Last year Braemar, which has been around forever and probably has very little capital depreciation, LOST $640K. The annual interest on 13 million at 5% is $650K, let alone any principal payment. Best of luck to them but I just don't see it. I would have taken the...

Re: YIKES...
I believe Northern Educated should be able to find financing to pay $13 million for a facility that cost $26 million to build. I think the building's actual market value and its projected cash flow will be more important than its original construction cost. Seriously. And I'd love to see the assump...

I'm curious if anyone has ever tried the intelligym software that USA Hockey is always pimping in their emails? It claims to address these kinds of issues and help to develop hockey sense. I guess I'm more inclined to think you could get the same benefit from the video games mentioned above but then...

"Outliers" debunked
Outliers and the 10,000 hour rule has been referenced on this board a number of times in the years since it was published. A new book by David Epstein, senior writer at SI, takes on that theory. Here is a (rather lengthy) interview with the author. I found it interesting and thought others would as ...

Re: Edina Squirt A team, Who developed the players?
I came upon this post when searching for something related. While somewhat silly at the time, six years later some may find it interesting. I can fill in much of the fast forward. Walker - 2 years PWA, 1 year BA, 1 year Edina Varsity, WHL in 10th grade Jungels - 2 years PWA, 1 year BA, 2 years BSM ...

I will comment on this so that everyone can understand this tournaments stucture. First, if you look at the girls tournament it is classified as AAA, not Invite or Open like the boys weekends. Looking at the teams playing will tell you enough about the appropriate level of competition for the progr...

The other thing to consider is that if they didn't make a AA/A split, most of the A only teams would have still been playing A level hockey. The scores would have still been the same against the bigger 'AA' association A teams. So, it did at least provide the opportunity for smaller associations to...

All I can say is if you r a bubble kid get better, because it has little to do with politics, only a coin toss. I disagree with the second half of your statement, at least in a large association with parent coaches/evaluators. If you have 10+ kids to choose from for the last 5 spots, and the differ...

Re: Edina HS Hockey
Connor Hurley, the best player by far for Edina HS, is from Eagan. Munson is from Apple Valley. Anders Lee transferred from St Thomas and they introduced the Anders Lee rule to MN sports. But you probably knew that. The Edina hockey association is loaded with kids from outside of Edina, that go to ...

SKMN - First off you make it sound like there are kids from all over the place skating in the Edina Hockey Association. That is simply not the case. The only way to play for Edina is to live there or go to school there, and open enrolling into Edina schools is not easy. Most schools are at or near c...
