Someone above stated talent is talent and it didn't matter where he went. They also explained that you don't know how players are going to turn out at the next level and pro (or benefit) of choosing ncaa is keeping your options to get a degree. He played about 90 games plus the world jr. I am intere...

Great example. Seth jones would have benefited by going to North Dakota because Justin Faulk signed a nice deal. My guess is seth jones won't ever see that kind of money. On the other hand drew doughty has already made what Faulk signed for in his short career and is raking in 7 mil a year, if you w...

No the AHL is not the only place to develope talent but the jump from NCAA to AHL is big. This is debatable. I personally don't think it's that big. How is one of your examples, drew leblanc, handling the jump? Looks like he went from hobey baker to 3-4th liner in the ahl. Is he hurt or what's goin...

Re: The harsh reality
I'm just of the same opinion that talent is talent. Send Bjugstad to the WHL and he'll still be a first rounder. Send Crosby to shattucks and he's still a first rounder. Send Seth Jones to North Dakota and he's still a first rounder. You have it or you don't. And put kyle rau on the Patrick Kane it...

Ohio State takes out Minnesota. Man I am hoping that the Gophs have this figured out, but then they lose like this. Can Minnesota contend for a national title? Or will they choke again? In a decade since their last title and the last of woogs recruits, the gophers haven't won a single frozen four g...

The stat doesn't pertain to hockey, but it does pertain to the value of education. My parents expected me to graduate college and I expect my kids to graduate college, whatever their hockey potential. I'm not saying college is for everybody, but for my family, it is. On the other side of that maybe...

Just be thankful for the stupid 2 class system. Your nephew would just be getting home from the batting cage if it were not for this watered down hockey tourney known as the class a bracket. Clymer and housley are not play by play guys so their role isn't to mention how many touches your nephew had....

For Heaven's Sake, put it in Mankato or Rochester as southern Minnesota could use the help or even Luverne and you would get a big pull into Sioux Falls and Sioux City and grow the sport. Why would hockey day in Minnesota look for a pull from Sioux Falls, SD or or Sewer City, IA? There is still var...

It's odd that they talked about kids who grew up playing hockey in Penn taking a lot of the spots on the team. I remember when MN would have 1/4 or a 1/3 of the team, at least it seemed. Hockey is obviously growing all over the U.S. and I believe kids here are lacking in development as 17-18 yrs old...

Housley...can win a WJC but can't win the SEC or get out of the section...or keep his defenseman from going to play juniors....confused on all of this. Maybe the way he views the game is entirely different from these high school kids. When he was their age we was nhl-ready and that is virtually unh...

So if guys like the Sauers and Mueller have concussions 200-300 games into an NHL career and things don't 'work out' you can attribute that to the path they took to get there? Or is it that they don't have 1-2 years of school under their belt like Brown from UMD? I think Mueller just signed and 1 or...

B, it gets murky because nearly everyone isn't NHL ready at age 20. The Wild just signed a guy named Zenon Konopka that did the whole ECHL-AHL-NHL progression. I think we're up to 500 NHL players that played in the ECHL at one point...Scott Gordon was the first. And it's probably worth noting that ...

so can they give out full rides to places like the U of M like the post above states? does anyone know what the whole scholastic program is with major jr or is it not cut and dry? If so, it doesn't sound so bad. Kids can give all their effort to being a hockey player from age 16-20 and if it doesn't...

I think when generalizing about NCAA route their is a difference in what schools players choose. It's pretty obvious what school are known for doing a good job with players (from a hockey standpoint) while they work towards their degrees for a year or two. Other schools might only produce a single c...

suter and Parise? I am guessing that maybe the best forward and defenseman in the US probably are not your typical players and probably would have had a shot at the NHL had they chosen the major junior route. What about Dustin Brown who played his 3 years of high school in the OHL and just captained...
