Re: Most Devastating Tourney Final Loss

I'd say East in 2011. Amazing back and forth game: triple OT. And the goalie probably should have covered up the game winner but it just slide past him and Rau was able to knock it in on off a couple weird bounces. 1978 Rapids vs Edina East. Rapids won the game in 1st OT when the puck went through ...

If we end tied after 3 OT's: If the score is still tied after the third overtime period and it is after 5:00 p.m., the game will be called and continued on Thursday morning beginning at 8:00 a.m. The next game will start as close to 6 PM as possilbe

And for those who think they can call play by play go ahead and try. Hockey is one of the toughest sports out there to do(again spoken from experience. Takes A LOT of preparation and memorization.

On the STMA coming-on conversation. I heard at a different sporting event from an STMA parent that his child's 1st grade class has 1000 kids. I do NOT no the accuracy of that statement but if true or close to true I think we will be seeing a lot of good STMA teams in many sports. It appears Andover...

I could be wrong, but I think the NHL switched to white on the road with an eye toward selling more jerseys, which for some odd reason are often referred to as "sweaters" by some in hockey circles. Most or all of the third jerseys are colored, so they expose home fans to two jerseys instead of one....

Did Learfield have SCSU Sports rights last year? I'm just curious because i know they do this year.

I wish the NHL would go back to Whites at home. In the words of the Fiddler on the Roof, “TRADITION!!!” I think they changed it because so many teams were wearing "alternate" jerseys that were colored and teams had to pack both sets of uniforms when travelling. Easier to pack 1 set of uniforms. And...

TV Play by play announcer

I heard Jim Erickson say last night he will be doing play by play for both classes during the state tournament. I had wondered about that because he is the radio voice of St Cloud St. hockey and the 1st round of the NCHC playoffs is next weekend.

Sad to see Nystrom go. He ends with 705 wins, which is second-most all time to Lorne Grosso...that's 89 ahead of Willard Ikola, who is third, and 107 ahead of the next-winningest currently active coach, who is fourth. What a remarkable career, particularly in a place where he has not been blessed w...

I wonder what the State Tournament record is for shots on goal during the course of the tourney? Hermantown must have about 150 shots or so over the three games, and they've gone to OT in all of them...that's unreal. It is unreal! Hawks will score winning goal short handed five on three. Watkins. W...

Curious when 45 contract ends. Would love to see FSN get the TV rights. Needs to be in HD. They extended it to 2021 back in 2009. Something tells me the league doesn't like to negotiate these things. Sorry to bump a year old thread but there was news on this earlier. KSTC and the MSHSL have extende...

The rule should be that the suspension has to take place in a sport you participated in the previous year. The fact that you can go out for Cross Country, and not give two rips about Cross Country, to serve the penalty is silly. A lot of schools have the rule in place that you must remain out for a...

I think that the fact the schools in SW Minnesota can legitimately compete for a spot in the state tourney has allowed for the growth of the sport in that part of the state. The move to 2 classes as also helped as those programs would NEVER sniff the state tourney in the 1 class days. Most of them w...

Underage drinking is a big deal, just because it is common doesn't make it OK, and certainly doesn't justify it. A LONG TIME AGO, as a 9th grader, I was the last guy cut from my high school team. There was no JV, so I returned to my community's program for 14-15 year olds, which back then was calle...

Whoa! What a blast from the past! The hockey tournament came on my radar in 1974, possibly '73. And I very much recall this music from then. It's a joke how 1AA stays unchanged. Should have moved a team from section 2 and 6 to breath some new life and challenge the Lakeville Schools. I'm puzzled by this, also. That and Minnehaha Academy is now AA? Lee Per the MSHSL website, Minnehaha's 9-12 enrollment this year was 414 students, so that's really odd. That's because I forgot Champlin Park. Fixed above. Gotcha, thanks. I still think Andover makes sense with the other A/B/C school...

Makes you wonder what the reduced/free lunch number at Brainerd High School is. Remember only 40% of those numbers are used by the MSHSL to determine enrollments for extracurricular activities the MSHSL sponsors.
