Re: Checking in bantams

Should moved down to Squirt level, but needs to start as body contact and taught properly, we make this an "event" to get to bantams to check or get checked. Emphasis also needs to be on taking a hit and all the do's and don'ts. It needs to be a part of the game from a young age and taught properly...

Re: Checking in bantams

USAH is studying the removal of checking in bantams. What do you think? Personally I think they should implement more body contact and "checking' into the squirt level. If they'd implement it younger rather than older and place a greater emphasis in both coaching and refereeing to use body contact ...

Re: Checking in bantams

The difference is that at peewees you have kids at vastly different size and skill. At bantams this gets cleaned up a bit because skill and size (with skill) tend to go together (based on the strength of the program and the schedule they play). At peewees it is much more possible to have a a 5'10" ...

Re: Arizona Youth Hockey vs MN

Thank you both for the information. My son is a May 07 birthday which makes him a second year Pewee for 2019-20 in Minnesota. I've been in contact with a couple clubs down there and am getting a good idea on how things work. They are open and seem ok evaluating him when we get there over the summer...

Re: Development is YOUR responsibility

No, the best athletes are playing basketball or wrestling. Continue to make hockey inaccessible to 80% of the population. Development is a minor issue. If the kid can’t afford to even play hockey after the 4th grade development does not matter. Income does not equal talent. MN hockey better wrap th...

Re: Eden Prairie's John and Luke Mittelstadt commit to Gophe

From fans outside of the EP bubble, objectively, what are these Middlestadt boys like? Personality wise and ethics wise? Are they good kids? Great kids and great work ethic. Luke, though a defenseman so tough to compare, is believed to be as "talented" as Casey was at that age. He's still young so ...

It feels a bit to me like you're trolling, but I'm waiting for the Wild to play so I'll bite - you're telling me that in your expert opinion, 85% of the players at the highest levels are there because of who they knew...unlike the top 15% who are there because of pure talent? Even as a newbie, I ca...

Didn't Edina have line? three kids Budish being one that played three sports not long ago ?? They couldn't have skated year round. I think all three moved on to "the next level". Yes I understand not the norm, still possible. You are correct. Everyone should google Adam Carlson from the Edina Junio...

You should like your chances, only bantam teams playing with 01's. Yes, but also playing with 03's. First half of birth year for 3's and second half for 01's. Not as much as an age difference when 02's move up to U16 next season when 1st half of 01's will also be on rosters. At this stage of the ga...

I agree jg...Finding ice is tough no doubt. My only suggestion would be if they could start the season a little earlier (like right about the time most associations are getting going). Problem is, your up against "football" and that is most likely a losing battle. MN HS hockey is as healthy as ever...

I believe you will find more MN HS players go straight to D1 College than do Tier 1 Midgets. Which will skew your numbers. Besides numbers wise we are talking about one state vs the rest of the country. Certainly not the best path in MN. You could add all of those (hand full) of kids going straight...

I'm pretty sure you don't need to obtain a waiver from your home association to leave for a Tier 1 team so why would you need to obtain a waiver from the Tier 1 team to go back to your Tier 2 association? The only reason I can think of for being blocked from re-enrolling back in your home associati...

Re: NAHL Draft

Always interesting with recent grads, USHL draftees, and decisions by younger players. NAHL is not typically a youngster league. http://nahldraft.com/ NAHL was not traditionally a "youngster league" but the Janesville Jets have changed that mentality league wide and there has been a major shift in ...

All of these years of whining about sending the best MN team to the Brick, the best of MN comes together and there is no comment? Nothing? Blades and Orange combine. This is fantastic. Gotta believe if the people who put this team together have any clue, we should be prohibitive favorites. Bring it...

The Show

Anyone make it over to the BIG to watch any of The Show games as of yet? Watched some of the live streamed games yesterday. For the age group its by far the best hockey I've seen. By far the best top end tourney for this age group, hope it starts gaining some momentum like the Brick and the Triple C...
