Jimmy Clark

I see that Edina freshman star Jimmy Clark isn't in tonight's game with White Bear, and wasn't on the scoresheet against St. Louis Park Monday. Anyone know his situation? If he's out it's a huge blow to an already anemic offense.

Another way to make money would be to move section four to Marriucci. Eliminating Hill playing at their home rink (and the complaints you get about that) and making it easier for a larger number to see what is always a classic match up would seem to justify it even beyond the money.

Not sure how anyone can credibly say that anyone's "goal" (who? the high school league?) is to have an all metro tournament. There are just four truly northern teams in section seven and four in section eight. Obviously, they could guarantee a northern team at state if they combined them, but I doub...

Agreed. It's a long way for any of the top four to the state semis.

Vorlicky

Thanks Cake. If the top teams get upset (or lose to an arguably equal team), it's nice if they lose with all their guns and no excuses. It looks like we may get that at state if the top four all make it.

When Tonka is on its game, it is as good as anyone. Do you know what the story was on Vorlicky?

Correction: I believe both Crosby and Koumontzis started the first game despite being down with the flu and were pretty ineffective. But either way I'd like to see these two teams at their full strength best in March.

Edina at Minnetonka, round 3

Edina comes into Minnetonka without two key players (Koumantzis and Vorlicky) for the second time this year against the Skippers, while the one game they were at full strength (winning 8-2) Minnetonka lacked its top defenseman. The game was even at 1-1 before Brinkman broke a skate and was off the i...

East Side Pioneer Guy

Maybe the Pioneers' 21-0 win over Central and 17-0 win over Humboldt in their undefeated 1983 season compare just a bit? And I don't recall Skrypek resting his top lines for half the game. No doubt it was a mismatch. But Hopkins beat the top lines of Hastings 5-2 (who beat Hill Murray) and Woodbury....

I didn't notice Giles not being there. Not sure what is up, but they won a big game shorthanded against a very good team.

Edina's second line was out tonight--Koumontzis and Crosby, who have 30 points (13 goals) in the first seven games. Koumontzis took a bad hit late in the EP game Saturday so that was somewhat expected, but I have no idea about Crosby. Hopefully they are back after Christmas for the Schwan. Either wa...

I like the Elks but think their game with EP is a good indication of where they are at. They have some nice skill in front but aren't playing enough defense. I don't blame the goalie. The forwards are walking in on him and like Edina's goalie, he can't do it without help. I think they looked a goal ...

I thought the Elks were floating a guy and Giles pretty much decided that if they wanted to be outmanned when Edina had the puck he'd live with that because he thought Edina would benefit as much or more. The 10-7 result suggests to me that both decided to let the offenses decide. The Elks did get a...

Given that Stillwater beat Elk River and Holy Family, I'm not sure the Ponies would have been seeded behind the Elks even had the Elks had won.The Elks' highlights were wins over EP and GR, but in between they lost 5-0 to Edina. EP's other struggles during that time of the season suggests that the E...

I'll go for the upsets with Wayzata playing SLP in section 6 final. I think they are both coming on strong at the end of the season. Park lost its last two games of the regular season and is on a one-game winning streak against a team coming off its worst season in decades. Wayzata is 1-5-0 to end ...

The problem is counting games against section opponents much more significantly than other regular season games. I suspect this policy was enacted to eliminate subjective arguments, but adults not trying to game the system should have no problem seeding teams somewhat honestly. The point is to rewar...

Wayzata also beat no. 2 Cretin and played a much tougher schedule. They could argue for the no. 2 seed. The season as a whole favors Wayzata over Benilde even if it's a close call.

There's no question that the venue benefits East and hurts ER. None. Also no question that it isn't going to change any more than the location of the state tournament. The question is how much the advantage is, and whether it has an effect on who wins or loses. Between two equal teams? I suspect the...

Braemar not reporting stats

It's be nice if the statistician (new last year) would start reporting stats since few can get to every game. Until then perhaps those at the game could report to the board. As for the Farmington game: Edina goals: 1. Walker from Scheerer and Jake Boltmann 2. Brinkman from Scheerer and Walker 3. Cro...

Lazy

Had you read my posts you will see that I was simply seeking information--not criticizing Giles. The issue for me was whether they were in and out of the program, not whether they should have made varsity or not. I was wondering whether they chose to leave the program early like others did. That's a...
