Re: Bantams vs. High School

I think he meant - how much do kids pay to play HS. Correct East Side? in my experience families are on the hook for most of the expenses other than coach's salaries unless the booster club steps up. A participation fee is paid to the school. I'm not sure what they are now days but I think when my ...

Re: University of St Thomas

Attendance is a great topic as it pertains to St Thomas possibly going D-1 On one hand you have schools like ASU playing in front of 400 people and the U of MN playing in a arena half full. My guess is St Thomas would struggle to draw in the casual Metro area hockey fan. Just to much competition in...

Re: Bantams vs. High School

What are some of the expenses involved with HS hockey, & how much are they? Skates, sticks, pads and ice time are the big ones. Bus and driver. Occasionally if the coach wants to hire an assistant who wants more than what the school will pay that has to be covered. In my experience the state tourna...

Imagine what kind of team Tonka would have had last year if he and Hanus would have stayed.
Playing the coulda game...Lake was insane. Eden Prairie would have Piechowski and Edina adds Brinkman & Silianoff.
Good point. In retrospect maybe Brinkman and Hanus would have benefitted from staying.

Re: Bantams vs. High School

1/10th the overall cost in high school. No 9:00 pm games on a Wednesday night two hours away from home. The school gets you to and from away games. Of course this all depends on your individual school district but for me high school was a far and away better alternative to youth hockey. Making it t...

Re: University of St Thomas

Side Note/Question: Any updates on U of Illinois going D1? I have a relative who has been pushing this for years if not decades. His kids played for the Chicago Mission AAA. His view is Title IX is preventing it, along with hockey isn’t very popular outside Chicago...... the hockey joke is you coul...

Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season

Probably 50/50 Athletic/Academic Ivies still do not offer athletic scholarships. Congratulations, Mason. Great opportunity. OTC is correct. However they get a financial aid type package. For example John Farinacci (per his dad) is getting a full ride as is Derek Mullahy, in the form of financial ai...

Re: 2019 Elite League Rosters

Muck, last year the NTDP faced North Southwest. Injured players were replaced, and naturally the invitations were extended to high end players. So there was a mechanism to get an elite player in the game who normally played on another team. Looking forward to two great games! That might be what I w...

Re: New Body Contact Rules

I didn't see anyone say anything about going out of your way to "finish a check". Finishing should be as a part of the play, many times if you dont "finsh" and let that guy go free.. you are out of the play.. Difference in taking yourself out of the play... sometimes it happens, but most times you ...

Re: New Body Contact Rules

I’m probably in the minority but I think the changes are positive and just hope they stick with them and get the change in play they are looking for. There is nothing exciting about grinding physical play. A skil game is way more exciting and it’s an entertainment business. I also disagree with the...

Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?

He lost me the year he had Everson, Budish and Lee. All through the playoffs he played them every other shift and on every power play for the full 2 minutes if necessary. The team chemistry was ruined and the team burned out at State. Also for a guy who was an NHL defenseman he doesn’t do a particul...

Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season

EP is a top 3 team now in my opinion. May be a Mr. Hockey Finalist. GB GB, have you seen him play? I've not, but I see he is 5' 8" and was the 7th leading scorer on a midget team from California. If he's that good, someone should make a run at getting the number 1-6 scorers. They aren't out of Cali...

Im looking for a solid secondary confirmation on the transfer information. The first source is always right 99.9%, but the name is so explosive that have to be 100+%, and even then may be best to wait for family announcement. BTW- Arent CEC and Rapids in Karl and Kniven home territory? See other th...

Re: 9 Minnesotans make Hockey News Top 120 for the upcoming 2019 NHL Draft

8+1 is correct. Crazy how far Helleson has dropped (if this list is accurate). If I had to guess I’d say he goes higher than this, but he may be one of the rare cases where going to the NTDP actually hurt his draft stock. The difference in trajectory between he and Jackson Lacombe, who stayed at Sh...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

It is going to take someone pretty special to go straight from high school to college any more. Heck, even D-III schools want players to have junior experience under their belts. And who can blame them when the rules allow it. Why would you want an 18 or 19 year old freshman when you can have 20 or...
