Why we play Division III Athletics (by Sean Sornsin - Cornell College) It's not about getting a scholarship, getting drafted, or making SportsCenter. It's a deep need in us that comes from the heart. We need to practice, to play, to lift, to hustle, to sweat. We do it all for our teammates and for ...

Re: Gophers

I heard that tomorrow Aaron Ness is going to sign a contract with the Islanders and not come back next year. Do you think there is going to be anymore players leaving? You never know these days.... I wouldn't be surprised if 2 or 3 guys don't return next year. However, I would be surprised if Ness ...

Star Trib is minneapolis based. Hill was the biggest threat to edina and EP in the state tournament (minneapolis suburbs). It wasn't that the Pioneer press wasn't giving love to white bear, the star trib was just giving love to a good possiblility of another state title coming their way. I may be go...

This could be a very, very fun state tourney. the afternoon session is going to be phenominal! Don't count Blaine out, and the moorhead vs. eagan game intrigues me a lot too. Haven't seen Duluth play so I'm not going to predict a first round curse breaker for white bear just yet, but hey.... you got...

Another classic game at the colliseum between these two teams! Couple things on the game: 1) Congrats to white bear hockey all the way up. this will get everyone involved in the program excited again. But congrats especially to the boys that did it on the ice. what a memory they will have for the re...

Hm...bodyshots... Have you ever thought it could be that the player peaked to early? Obviously people thought Fischer was a #1 round draft pick. Correct? Well if The Don made him go backwards than why didnt his pro team get him out of the U. It looks to me like Fischer turned out to be a flop. I th...

Are you saying g.f.d., that marshall might not even wear a gopher uniform? Well, Johnny, with the reputation that The Don is getting at the U, I wouldn't be surprised if Ben never wears one. When it is becoming publicly clear, that the hometown team, the Minnesota Wild is questioning the growth of ...

The difference is that Hill is pulling the best players from not so good programs. Kinda like an all star team. I like EP's Chances. They have handled the pressure in their previous youth champianships, and comparing last years Woodbury team to next years EP team is like comparing the Yankee...

Make it from "good" to the "best"? If they made changes I gaurantee you that they would not get any bigger. Where would the extra ratings come from? Everyone in the state of Minnesota basically watches it that have any slight interest. I just dont see any changes that could be m...

Re: Is the MN state hockey tournament really that bad?

They should have a 16 team tournament where they rank all 16 teams. The first game for each team is played off site during the week. if you lose your first game you're out, then the remaining 8 teams move on to the X and so on and so fourth...best way to get the best teams to play it out for the ch...

Re: Is the MN state hockey tournament really that bad?

For the past couple of weeks all I have read on here was how terrible the way this tournament is put together and how all these changes need to be made. I have a lot of this: 1) The seeding process must be changed. i.e. seed 1-8, or just pick the best 8 teams off of some poll and let them duke it o...

i'd like to see a plan that got the best teams to state. the idea of getting representation from all parts of the state sounds great but its not promoting the best hockey. A State Hockey Tournament should be able to get teams that are all rated in the top twenty in its class. better yet go to a sin...

Minneapolis suburbs love to overestimate the relative strength of their teams. Minnetonka was considered a class to itself all year until being dominated and barely escaping Hill-Murray in four overtimes. Edina benefited from a generous seeding in not facing the Pioneers. Last year, Edina was knock...

Ok, It may not be a cakewalk but when you compare it to sections 2 and 6, it does seem like it. That is all I'm saying. I am not discrediting Hill-Murray in any way, they deserved to be at state this year, as well as the other years. Last year, it wasn't a cakewalk but the section was still weak be...

If you think that Hill is rarely tested in sections, you clearly haven't been watching the section games at the colliseum for the past 30+ years. Sorry, you're wrong. In recent years (yes I don't care about 30+ years ago), Hill pretty much has had a cakewalk to sections. Ask Burnsville, Jefferson, ...

Re: Hill-Murray 08' team compared to Edina 10' team

I think Hill had a much more difficult path back in 2008 with Roseau being on a 41 game winning streak and Edina having their 1st line of Budish, Lee, and Everson. I think you're wrong. Edina beat: * Holy Angels * Jefferson * Roseau * Apple Valley * Minnetonka Hill-Murray is rarely tested in sectio...

So who they played in sections is irrelevant. Would you be saying the same thing if Apple Valley and Blaine switched sections and ...
