I'm actually in favor of allowing checking in girl's hockey. To me, the rule is a joke. Girl's are not more delicate nor in need of extra protection. Let the girls loose and let them hit! Although body checking is against the rules in girls'/women's hockey, that does not mean it doesn't occur. Ther...

WBL will be middle of the pack this year. They lost 10+ seniors with 6 of them being in their top 7 for scoring. Unfortunately, it will take a year or two for them to rebuild. BUT, they do have an excellent returning goalie!

Maybe the official had a bad day and made a mistake....maybe the berating/swearing was taken out of context....maybe there is a little bit of both. In any case, officials should be held to a higher standard. Is a suspension or termination the right action, it depends on past history and what "really...

5-2 final HM over Stillwater. HM gets an empty netter to finish the scoring. Hannah Brandt had a hat trick. Stillwater played a whale of a game and left it all on the I've, so they have nothing to be ashamed of. Roseville and Hill were the better teams but both WBL and Stillwater played great games...

Another thing I have noticed is there is more hotdog puck hogging in peewees and less passing. Less like hockey and more like individual skill showcasing. The beauty of checking is that it forces puck hogs to pass. I've noticed that a kid will try to stickhandle through three defenders while not ev...

/ but the kid that didn't do anything that has to sit for 5 minutes is missing ice time.[/quote] I would like to make a point on this statement. It is not completely true. It is a calculated risk a coach has to take. If someone has to serve a major penalty for your player you can leave the box empt...

Re: Referees deciding games

I know this is an old topic, but it has become worse in the weeks since the Jablonski hit. Referees are all over the board with these calls. These kids don't know what to do on the ice, because they are never sure what type of referee they are going to get. The bottom line is that the kids need to ...

Stillwater or WBL could always get hot at the right time too. Goal tending and a couple pucks finding the net on the otherside of the ice is all it takes. HM was the #4 seed last year in sections. This is so true. I don't think the "most talented" team has made it out of this section in a few years...

Re: Out of Control?

If this game was so "out of control" doesn't the referee have the responsibility to call it? If it was so "out of control" why were more people not kicked out, cops called, etc? If it was so very "out of control" would either coach allow their players to go through the line at the end of the game, ...

Leagues that still use the 1 ref 2 linesman system inculde MnJHL, NA3, NAHL, USHL, ECHL, QMJL, IIHF and AHL. Yes the QMJL and AHL produce the most NHL players and officials. USA Hockey, MN Hockey and any District that allows or promotes putting 1 referee on the ice is merely paying lip service to player safety. There can be no lucid argument in favor of a 1 referee system. "Consistency" has been tried, but fails miserably since the only thing consistent with 1 referee ...

If you want HB's stats against the good teams, look at the other half of their schedule where they played all top 10 teams. Roseau's coach called her the best in the world at her age. That's heady praise. She reminds me of Kyle Rau from EP last year, just that little bit better when it really matte...

Good call on the checking from behind penalty. Ref kind of overreacted by tossing everyone. I wasn't the official and didn't see the altercation but how can you say that the officials overreacted? The coach said the punishment was correct and from what I read, everyone was involved in one way or an...

The play has been a joke and the officiating has been worse. Games have turned into toe-pull competitions in the offensive zone and kids trying to go end-2-end because they know they aren't getting knocked off the puck. I've been an official (high school and youth) for many years. In the past, the "let em play" philosophy made it easi...

According to the score sheet from the WBL/MV game, the afore mentioned WBL player had 8 penalty min. I guess you really can't change a zebras stripes!!
