Re: University of St Thomas

Attendance is a great topic as it pertains to St Thomas possibly going D-1 On one hand you have schools like ASU playing in front of 400 people and the U of MN playing in a arena half full. My guess is St Thomas would struggle to draw in the casual Metro area hockey fan. Just to much competition in...

Re: University of St Thomas

They will move up to D-I if the NCAA allows their waiver request. Right now, a school moving up from D-III needs to make a stop at D-II (for five or six years???) as part of the transition. But, they are requesting a waiver from the NCAA based on the fact that the MIAC voted them out of the league a...

Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season

Probably 50/50 Athletic/Academic Ivies still do not offer athletic scholarships. Congratulations, Mason. Great opportunity. OTC is correct. However they get a financial aid type package. For example John Farinacci (per his dad) is getting a full ride as is Derek Mullahy, in the form of financial ai...

Well, here I thought you were a certain BSU Hockey Alumni in town. Your background is almost exactly like mine. If you ever want to get more involved off the ice, message me and I will help point you in the right direction.
Thanks! Sent you a message.

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019

I am a year away from being neck-deep involved in the program, but I know the last 5 years we spent a fair amount of time talking about when, not if, we go to AA. Not much angst when the girls got bumped up and I doubt there will be much when the boys do. The youth program has more than doubled in ...

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019

Even though they are not 218 (about 10 miles from the line), is it possible we could see Alexandria ending up in AA in the next alignment cycle? Their girls program got bumped up in the most recent alignment cycle. :?: New Prague High School 1260 St. Louis Park High School 1255 Northfield High Scho...

Not sure where to throw this, so I will throw it in this thread. The NCAA has come out with new recruiting rules/guidelines today: https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2019/04/19_NCAA-Approves-Sweeping-Changes.php "The most significant change regards verbal commitments, which now will not be allow...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

Honestly I think it is dumb that you have to play multiple years of juniors to play D3 hockey. NCAA D3 should make a freshman age limit of 19. Then what do you have left for that 19 year old junior player that is border line D-I caliber? He plays another year of junior, gets better and lands a spot...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

It is going to take someone pretty special to go straight from high school to college any more. Heck, even D-III schools want players to have junior experience under their belts. And who can blame them when the rules allow it. Why would you want an 18 or 19 year old freshman when you can have 20 or ...

Re: AA school fielding an additional A team

No, it would be possible, but not "fair" (lack of a better term). Part of the reason there is AA and A is due to the number of kids a school has to pick from to put a team together. If you start allowing AA schools to field both AA and A teams, what is to say they don't stack their A team to make a ...

Alexandria's Bantams are in the Bantam A State Tournament this weekend, so there should be some skill moving up next year. And you are correct, the numbers in Alexandria are strong for the next 10+ years, I would say. My son is a Sept 2010 and his age has 27 kids out for hockey. The next age group ...
