They were told they won't be seeing any ice time the rest of the season so they quit rather than play JV. Apparently, Duluth East did the same thing a few years back so there was precedent to allow this. Back when my kid played JG it was a nice soft landing after getting cut by the varsity. Any cha...

In my experience the captains have been voted on by the players at the end of the season and named at the year end banquet. A lot of work has to be done by the captains' parents over the course of the year and it gives them time to get things done. Typically the captains' parents get involved in fu...

Re: Captaincy

Original question: Presumably Brinkman and Walker (Sr and Jr)...Brinkman is solid as they come but I agree a So. captain is pushing it. He will achieve enough and receive plenty of accolades in his HS and college career - does he 'need' a 'C' as a sophomore? Probably not. Then again - IS that what ...

The school, who?
Last year they did a rainbow of sorts with whatever kids were left from the Richfield program that disbanded. They played mostly JV teams last year. I believe the plan is to play more varsity teams this year.

Exactly, depends on the coach. Some charge more and make $$$ off of the families, others make it much more affordable and make a small amount for their time. As a legendary HS coach once told me, "if you are coaching HS hockey for the money, you are coaching for the wrong reason". I have seen both ...

I think Elliott70 said it best when this exact subject came up last year I have questions... Where do you people get your information? How do you know it is a lock for some kids? Why do you think it is a money grab? How do you know the thought process of the evaluators? Why do you make such a fuss ...

Heard at the rink last night Bowlby and Jungels will take over at Edina. Interesting rumor. It would seem pretty unlikely that the AD would put two coaches in place that will both have multiple kids on the team. Not to mention that fact that both have histories of bench-shortening, which obviously ...

There should be individual feedback, or better yet straight up publish a ranking after the festivals. I suspect they come in with ranking at the start. These are big boys they can handle it. More transparency. My guess is that "feedback" or rankings would just annoy people even more. I'm very fortu...

UMD belongs with the other three in terms of admission statistics - not even close to UM. In fact, UMD admits a higher % of applicants than Mankato.

Again, I dont really care who would win a game between a top JGA team and a AA school ranked around 25-30, because some of you I'm guessing have never seen a game so arguing is senseless. I've seen plenty, and I don't really care either. It's the de-facto, 100%, no chance argument that is annoying ...

Whatever makes you sleep at night. Oh, I sleep fine - this discussion is really about knowledge, not emotion for me. The concept is really no different than the better Bantam A teams beating some of the middle tier Bantam AA teams. In the case of JGA, players often get cut for reasons outside of th...

Some of these Jr. Gold posts are ridiculous. There is absolutely zero chance a Jr. Gold "A" team would come close to beating a Top 50 AA team. Zero. None. Sure - the first line of a Jr. Gold "A" team could skate with the second and third lines, but beyond that it wouldn't even be close. You are an ...

Benjamin and Beaupre. Carlson was probably just as good as either one, just didn't make it. It was a deep group of goaltenders with those three and another at JGA that were all pretty solid. Good for Adam.

These JR Gold statements are getting out of hand. No they could not compete with AA teams because even bad AA teams have one line that would dominate every player on the Junior gold team. This is more of a correct statement so I will seperate it for whoever wants to argue it. Just because you argue...

There is no way the top Junior Gold A teams could beat many AA HS teams. Actually they would get crushed by the majority of the HS AA teams. JGA hockey is fun and it lets kids enjoy hockey at a competitive level and stay in the game. Completely false. The top few junior gold A teams - usually Wayza...
