Ely varsity is not exactly a superstar mark on the resume. May or may not make it big. Give the kiddo time to develop. 7AA nor 7A is not going to get excited until he proves himself. He will have plenty of time. Thats how Htown is.... seniors lead, jrs follow, soph sit down and shut up ...and fresh...

With this elite player from Ely apparently going to H town ; my question to the experts is this: considering the schedule Ely played last year are all of you expecting him to jump onto the high school team and play well with their schedule?? There is a HUGE difference in the caliber of teams the tw...

The biggest issue with Hermantown is that the top brass complained that they can't compete with "metro all-star teams" when they were losing to Breck and STA. They act like they are Ely or Kittson Central - a super small town with not a lot of numbers and can't compete with the big schools and ALL ...

Re: Elite player to Hermantown

Heard that a top player in his age group from Ely is transferring to Hermantown. He will be attending an assessment camp in New York this summer. Out of approximately 100 players who tried out he made the final cut of 20. He will be a freshman at Hermantown this fall. Makes sense. What outlying kid...

Well for a Denfeld guy you sure seem to have a lot of really strong opinions about Cloquet stuff that you either don't know very much about but for some reason feel the need to opine on or are trying to play dumb and push an agenda for some reason. I'm calling shenanigans. My question is all of thi...

I would say their rebuilding, but with open enrollment they'll be able to reload. Are you suggesting Hermantown will be getting some open enrollees to show up from around Duluth to join next years Varsity? Cite one example of a kid that came later than Bantams in the history of our program. Maybe J...

There has been movement in the bottom, enrollment wise, teams for the past few cycles. Football has a set number of teams in 6A......32......if a school opts up like Cretin or Totino then the League forces a team down to 5A. Hockey doesn't do that, schools that opt up add to the 64. To figure out w...

As you sit back and look at the section assignments and think about what a great thing Minnesota has, best HS event in the country. Why wouldn't Hermantown want to participate, not saying this to start dialogue and please don't hijack the thread but it just doesn't make sense on so many levels. It ...

Well, that's two years in a row that Hermantown has beaten the eventual AA champ during the regular season. But A is where they belong. They have now won 58 straight games vs A teams, have been to 8 straight title games, have won two straight A titles and now three overall. But A is where they belon...

This thread has really went flying off into space...bottom line is the class a tournament for hockey SHOULD BE for smaller schools who can't compete at the AA Level. Hermantown has proved the past 10 years they can compete at the AA Level. Same with STA and they moved up and have made AA State 2 of...

As a side note. It took us overtime to beat Luverne, with arguably the best team in our history. They have obviously rasied their game and so has Delano and a few others. Maybe it's time you from all the other associations start looking at how you can improve your situation and not worry so much ab...

Plante seems surprised that he and the program are getting hammered on so hard by just about every hockey fan in MN. He clearly is not aware of the concept of karma. It made perfect sense to him to bash STA and Breck every year, but why-oh-why are others doing that to us now? It's great to see a pro...

This whole "You need to get better" argument drives me nuts, for a couple reasons: 1. The mantra for every team and every kid in the state should be "Get better!". 2. The teams in 7A HAVE GOTTEN BETTER!!!!!!!! - Denfeld had a top ten A team just two years ago - Virginia has a group of sophomores tha...

Happy to sign this petition. Too bad they set the goal at only 200 signatures. Gotta think big when confronting runaway avarice. :)

Edit: They have moved the goal up to 500 signatures, and they have over 400 so far. :o

The petition will be submitted to the Hermantown AD. Interesting...

The argument in years past has been that they don't always have the numbers or talent to compete at the AA level. Be that as it may, neither does Roseau or other schools who opt up to AA. There will be years where they can compete in AA, and years where they may be middle of the pack. Either way, 7...

Agreed, Hermantown has too much fire power. It's been said a million times; but i'll say it again, sure would of been interesting if they opted up 2 years ago to see what they really could of done. Yes, Hermantown has more speed, skill, and open-enrolled talent than Greenway does, but big upsets are big upsets because no one gives the underdog a realistic chance at winning.

I'm late to the party, but the Hibbing-Greenway game was fantastic. Very tight game between two closely matched teams. Greenway played great team defense and their goalie was strong. I felt bad for the Hibbing kids but it was neat to see Greenway reach the 7A title game just a few years after there ...

During the winter of 2003 or 2004 I remember attending a Bantam A game at Freezeberger between Duluth East & Hermantown. DE was led by Connolly & Fairchild, HT by Lablanc & Huttel. Great game, very competitive, 2 teams that played at least twice per season and accordingly didn't like each other. DE...
