I may, or may not, have known this for a few weeks, but did not want to post it until it was pubic.

Re: Turning Points

2019-20 Pioneers went 3-5-2 over a month into mid-January and then played better than any other team the rest of the way en route to the state title. The team I witnessed Hermantown manhandling at Aldrich, in a game they literally did nothing...to convincing AA Champs, a gigantic turn around in a s...

Re: Charlie Strobel

Very happy for Charlie, and looking forward to seeing him in maroon & gold. Charlie was a total stud in the postseason this year. I've always said that you need a player or two to take over games and score big goals, and Charlie did that all post-season. -He got them on the board with a huge goal ag...

Re: Minnesota Hockey state tournaments

NBA, NHL seasons postponed. March madness cancelled. Concerts and events rescheduled. Venues shutting down. It occurred to me while watching the craziness unfold today that we probably avoided a cancelled state hockey tournament by 1 week.

Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

Enjoy reading all the stories and fun going down memory lane. I probably should have labeled the thread where does mahtomedi’s upset rank? (In the past 10 year.... give or take). I feel like people in years to follow will may forget due to it being 3 vs 4 matchup but honestly, Saturday morning had ...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

It’s unfortunate in 2020 boys high school hockey that attracting outside talent to open enroll into your hockey program is what makes a program successful year after year after year. With that in mind, I think more and more that Hermantown should stay in A. The real problem is that too many A progr...

Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

2010. Tonka (26-1 during the season and I believe 10 Div I recruits) went 2-1 vs. Edina (17-6) during the season including a 7-1 decision in January. Sadly the 4-OT game the night before vs. Hill-Murray and a godawful start to the 1st period got the best of them. I joked with friends and alumni aft...

Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

I’m going to butcher this, and perhaps someone with a better recollection can tell it more accurately. 2010-2011 season, MN Hockey Hub did a four part series titled Becoming a Pioneer . I remember thinking that was a really cool, in-depth look at a program (and something they should do every year wi...

Posted by goldy313 » Sun Mar 08, 2020 1:09 am "How many state champs did the Lake produce this year? 2 less than the TRME, and Moorhead went 0-2." The Lake Conference is just fine. They've won 8 of the last 12 'AA' State Championships. Do us all a favor and let us know when the 'AA' TRME schools ha...

Re: 2020-21 Early Rankings: SWEET SIXTEEN

Hill should be good next year. But they’re losing a lot of key contributors. Keopple is gone. Strobel is gone. Pierre is apparently and according to many....gone. They’ve got others too that were important cogs this year as seniors. If Pierre stays I feel much more optimistic about next year.

Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

2007 was a really weird year for big upsets. 3 seed Hill lost to Rochester Century. I was driving and listening on the radio. When Century scores the game winner the announcers were just screaming at the top of their lungs. You couldn’t tell what they were saying. Then the announcer did his best Mir...

Re: AA Championship: Hill Murray v Eden Prairie

Couple of observations about the game: I felt EP actually had good several good scoring opportunities. There were at least of couple of pucks that slid right through the crease. But EP had almost no second chances. There weren’t any juicy rebounds at all. That’s big. I don’t really recall seeing a s...

Re: AA Championship: Hill Murray v Eden Prairie

Also.... Metro East teams win both state titles. With Hill, STA & Mahtomedi at the top, this really is a premier conference. Which if nothing more at least means these teams are ready for sections and State. Tradition Rich Metro East indeed. Hill went 7-0-1 against tourney teams this year. Pretty am...

Re: AA Championship: Hill Murray v Eden Prairie

Congrats to Hill! You made all of us proud! You could just see the pride on some of these 2nd generation Pioneers, to be able to continue this tradition of excellence. To bring a championship to the Hill family is amazing. As an alum, I have many fellow Pioneers reaching out and connecting over this...

Six weeks ago my wife booked us a dinner and show for tonight. Gotta find a way to fake explosive diarrhea so I can stay home and watch the game. Re: AA Championship: Hill Murray v Eden Prairie

As mentioned in the HM v STA thread, I think Hill got away from their game last night. Too many individual efforts, way too many chances for STA to set up their offense. EP seems to come at you in waves and they play great D. Hill will need to capitalize on their opportunities and hope that EP doesn...

Where are Sparlimb's comments on the game? As much as I hate to admit it, these boys are really fun to watch. For the first time in my life I can say that I will be cheering for Hill-Murray tomorrow night. I'm trying not to throw up in my mouth while I say that. It's like cheering for Hitler vs. St...

Re: Mahtomedi vs Hermantown

I'd love to see Mahtomedi win this game, but I just don't see it happening. Mahtomedi did beat both Hill & STA in the regular season [although they lost to both of them as well - they're in the Tradition Rich Metro East and play those teams twice each year]. They were, unfortunately, also apparently...

Re: Hill-Murray vs St. Thomas Academy - Semi-Final Friday

Not sure my heart can handle these. Hill was outplayed for long stretches. Oddly, once OT started they looked like the much better team. Bring on EP. Thats going to be a tough game. Should be fun. Lots of respect to STA. How that team was 5-7 to start the year I’ll never know. Kudos to their coach a...

Ugh STA looks miles better right now. STA is making plays and having great chances. Can’t believe some of those didn’t go. Hill is not getting much of anything. We’ll see in OT.

STA looking great right now. Outskating Hill in the 2nd period and in these first few minutes of the 3rd. Nice goal by STA. Okie dokie here we go!
