Hasn't this set a very dangerous precedent? So a player decided to not play association hockey, fine. Decides to play on a new tier 1 team, fine. Now after tryouts are over decided to quit said tier 1 team, gets waitered out of own association and now basically become a free agent. Its not like the...

Really depends on your motivations and goals as a program I'm speaking from first hand experience here, as my son was on the AA PeeWee team last year. Indeed 9-27-11 isn't a good year record wise. But I guarantee you those boys improved at a much more rapid rate than if we had played an A schedule a...

My association should......... (in ten words or less)

I'm looking for what are the most perceived problems within our youth associations.... I'm interested to see if the issues facing youth hockey are encompassing or more individualized. Looking forward to feedback.

This is the system that has been created. People are playing within the rules... the rules needs to be changed, lets blame the rule makers as much if not more than the "sandbaggers" Since the MV/I team is the point of conversation, I'll use them as an example. They really have the best of ...

I think I'm in disagreement as to the difficulty in teaching checking in practice and the kids not being able to control themselves in games. Last season at the B PeeWee Level, we as a coaching staff made the decision that we owed it to the second year kids to prepare them for Bantams. For the next ...

Tryout ?s

Looking for some feedback on some details on how your association does tryouts. Not really looking to hear which one is better or worse, just want to gauge how it is being done elsewhere. Thanks for your time Association - Open or Closed - Number of coach selection at squirt, pee wee, bantam - In ho...

Winning vs development.

Coaches/Parents - What is the appropriate ratio for coaching youth hockey? At what age does the dynamic switch? I think winning is important. I think anything you do should be done as well as possible and I think caring about the outcome and learning to compete are very valuable skills in hockey and...

I think - "Coaches have an idea who they WANT on the team before tryouts" might be a better way of putting it. Parents have to understand that coaches have been around these kids and the other parents that have coached these kids for a few years at least. They know these kids, their work e...

Switching to goalie

Any one have any tips about switching to goalie? My son is a 1st year squirt and has expressed some interest. Don't even know where to start. Are there any beginner clinics or something he could try on the side?? Hes an athletic kid and I think he would be good at it but am at a total lost.....

My son has played for the MN Jr Moose program the last two seasons....and we have been a very pleased. I believe at our level (03) the bulldogs were out of the northern suburbs, places like cambridge. Good tournaments, like anything else your experience will have to do with who you get as a coach an...

What makes a good association?

What are the traits of the great associations? Of course numbers, numbers numbers...I know. But what else are the common denominators that they all share? Are they successful because of the sheer numbers of kids to choose from, or are those numbers high because they are consistently successful? Chic...

Honestly I don't have an answer to that...I guess it would all come down to what kind of player/qualified coaching commitments we could get for multiple teams. As for Jdog, I can't say that I knew he was there. I didn't mingle much, ran my drill then watched the scrimmage. I'm very happy with the ne...

They went great...there are going to be some very hard decisions to make. We had 30 skaters for the 03's with a few kids that couldn't make it...the 02's had 40+ kids show up. Fun night on the ice. It was great to meet so many talented, coachable kids.

I can say this, we have a very good idea who it will be but since nothing has been finalized it would be improper to give names just yet. If you would have worded it differently there would have been no response by me. I just don't understand why anyone on this YOUTH hockey forum, bashes or degrades any program, especially one that they have no association with or ties to. To insinuate that anyone playing in the Irondale youth program...
