Minnehaha is the coldest rink in the metro area. Man, did parents bitch when we had games scheduled there! As a player I loved it once you warmed up.

Re: Burnsville/Apple Valley

Is this a long-term co-op or are the numbers just down this year for these two schools? I imagine this is a long term deal - They’ve been combined at the youth level for a few years now and the majority of those youth players are from the AV side. It makes sense geographically. And both programs ha...

Re: AA Rankings for 12/18/22

I would definitely agree with that. I think both would compete right away for the 2A title, or at least compete with Orono for the Top Seed. If they were slotted in to the Section right now, I think it would probably be 1. Orono 2. Blake 3. Holy Angels 4. LDC or Delano Would be such a fun Sectional...

Re: 2022 - 23 Coaching Changes

In an interesting Twist Last year's two biggest Coaching Departures that made big headlines were Mike Randolph and Janne Kivihalme The rumor is the Final 2 Candidate's for this year's biggest AA Opening at STA are the above two.... Personally I think Janne would be the better hire... See how it sha...

Re: Eastview vs Cretin-Derham Hall - Section 3AA Championship

I attended this game last night and it was very entertaining. Cretin is as good as advertised. I can see them winning next Saturday night, but other tourney teams will be good enough to beat them if Cretin doesn’t play their best or the opposing team plays a great game. Eastview played hard and they...

Another school that comes to mind is Shakopee. They’ve been building a good youth program the last several years, and that may start to pay off at the HS level.

Based on this article, we can now add Jake Ratzlaff to the early departure list, as pretty much expected https://www.therinklive.com/college/gophers/6641525-Gophers-prospect-Jake-Ratzlaff-faces-tough-choice-blocked-shots-or-zone-blitzes Yeah, that one was pretty much a foregone conclusion once foot...

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - Turning Points

As an outsider it seems like the jumpstart in many of the private schools’ success was bringing in high level coaches who stayed there a while to build the programs. Pauly (not sure when he started at Benilde but wouldn’t be surprised if it was mid-late 90’s when their success started), Trebil, the...

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - Turning Points

I was once told - it was so long ago I can't remember by whom but I do recall it was someone whose views I trusted - that schools like Benilde and Holy Angels made a conscious decision in the late 90s/early 00s to emphasize sports more primarily for business reasons. Attracting kids who might be at...

Re: Turning Points

Greg Trebil going from the Coach of the Jefferson Bantam A team to Head Coach at Holy Angels in 1996 marked the beginning of the end for Jefferson. Good point - it definitely prematurely ended their run as a dominant team in the state. They could’ve won another championship or two had the players w...

Re: 1996: Duluth East/Apple Valley

Best tourney game I’ve ever watched. Both teams gave everything they had for 8 periods! Amazing that AV had any gas in the tank on Saturday, and even more impressive that they were able to win Saturday! Only game that comes close in my mind is the 2011 title game between EP and DE. Unfortunate for D...

Re: Coaching Changes - 2020-21

Eastview now open - Drey Bradley has retired after 13 years at the helm. They’ve been a middle of the pack AA team for most of their existence. Just for the fact that there generally aren’t an abundance of Twin Cities head coaching jobs at AA programs, does that up the profile of this opening? Or i...

Absolutely. SCC and Hermantown could both compete for a title this year if there was a single class.

To me the Edina East titles count. There is no way class A or private school does though.
If Edina East’s titles count towards Edina’s total, then I’m lumping the Bloomington schools together. +1 added to the total for Jefferson/Kennedy

Caspers did play for the Blizzard where Tim Parkos is a coach... That would sting for Marshall as Caspers was announced as one of their captains for 19-20 at the end of their season. Re: Death of inner ring suburbs hockey

This has been happening for a while now. Even teams who won championships in the 90’s are down, such as Apple Valley and Jefferson. If you’re having a baby now you better move to Hinckley or Belle Plaine if you want them to play on a good public HS hockey team 😉 Looking at your list there’s still qu...
