Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

One intangible to look at is who Ms. Hockey has gone onto play for in college. Of the 27 winners, 20 have gone onto play for the Gophers. I know, 2 of the last 3 have or will not do that, but it's something to keep in mind. Only one time has back-to-back Ms. Hockey winners NOT gone onto play for the...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament

At what point do we just go like Michigan does and have the girls team up and play little ceasears, belle tire and honeybaked? Why not? Polaris vs United Healthcare at Ritter for the state title. 3m vs medtronic in the 3rd place game? This way girls that do everything right and are loyal to their t...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament

The point of my last post is to respond to the prior post - the rules already allow these girls to train and play together all year long. Take the "MSP Grey" Elite League team that has 5 Tonka girls. Those 5 girls (Lindsay, Klepinger, Sadura, Avar, Distad) train and play together, LITERAL...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament

Returning to the transfer discussion. I'm wondering what the downside of abolishing the transfer rule would be. Obviously this doesn't exist for academics (does it?). Imagine your kid is a talented actor, you transfer the child to a school with a highly renowned program before his/her junior year, ...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament

MSHSL needs to crack down on all of these girls hopping from team to team. Full disclosure, I don't know what happened at Breck last year but how were all of those girls eligible to play this year for a new school? (In Messner's case, swapping teams mid-season?!?) I'm not positive, but I thought I ...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament

Second - in his preamble to last night's games, Joe Schmitt said that "Undoubtedly these are the best four teams in AA this year." Unfortunately, it's an easy cliché for the media to use is these situations. We all know that's not true. But along those same lines, the comment the lady col...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament

Yay Gentry! :) Probably get killed tomorrow though. ](*,) Exactly my same thoughts. Good for Gentry, but they'll get demolished tonight. I cannot see it being much different than their 5-1 loss to Andover earlier in the year. Then again, they lost to Maple Grove earlier in the year, and avenged tha...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament

There's not enough quality in HS girls hockey for these kind of State tournament brackets. Take the top 64 teams in the state (ranked by the computers) and put them in the "AA" bracket. Take the rest and put them in "A." Teams like Holy Family, Wayzata and Benilde shouldn't be p...

Re: 4AA Section Final Gentry vs Hill-Murray

Should be a good one tonight. I've already predicted the upset. Thoughts? From a quick look at their schedules, in games versus top teams (as discussed on other topics recently): Hill Murray is 6-8-1, with 34 GF, 39 GA Gentry is 7-6-0, with 36 GF, 35 GA In games against common opponents: Hill Murra...

Re: Scoring by top seniors

That's really helpful - thank you! Certainly seems consistent with what I would have guessed. I think Warroad does a mix - they usually come down to the metro to play good teams, but then also play really weak teams and let their top end kids run up the score. I looked quickly at 18-19 and 19-20 (C...

Re: Scoring by top seniors

Regarding Warroad, their forwards point totals are at least as much a function of the barbell schedule - some top teams, and then some very, very weak teams in which they are encouraged to run up the score - I think that's more a factor than phantom assists. (That's also an observation one might ma...

Re: Section Seeding Predictions

Section 5AA - Fairly set. Only flip-flop could be Osseo/PC & CP/CR. Osseo just defeated CP/CR. Therefore, I give them the #5 seed for now.
1. Maple Grove
2. Rogers
3. Centennial/SLP
4. NWC
5. Osseo/Park Center
6. Champlin Park/Coon Rapids
7. Mounds View
8. Irondale/St. Anthony

Re: WEEK 10: Girls HS Hockey Computerized Ratings Jan 17, 2022

Thanks for this snapshot, good way of looking at things. I don't see any surprises here and, frankly, it's really anti-climactic in girls hockey. We can bank on Andover, Edina, Tonka being the top 3 seeds, while the rest of AA is irrelevant. I hope I'm wrong, maybe BSM or HF pulls off a stunning up...

Re: Week 9

Surprised by many scores last including the Centenial/Osseo OT win. Both goalies played well, which kept the score down. Overall, Osseo didn't have as many SOG's, but outworked Centennial a majority (not all) of the evening. Centennial gets themselves pinned on slow and sloppy breakouts. A huge pro...

Re: Week 8

I'm bored so here we go. Thursday Gentry/Maple Grove - on paper a slightly better match-up for Gentry. Was Blake a blip? Or is Gentry stumbling? Tie Game Holy Family/Mound - a conference and cross-class match-up - can Mound topple the Fam? Absolutely not. Edina/Blake - section 6 showdown. Even with...

Centennial/Blaine - both teams looking to bounce back. Can Hansen corrale the Cougars? Yes, she certainly can. Centennial dropping off the map Yes, Centennial continues to regress. From watching online, it appeared that Blaine frustrated Centennial's D with a constant forecheck. Centennial's D lost...

Centennial/Blaine - both teams looking to bounce back. Can Hansen corrale the Cougars? It's really too hard to tell. Last year's 3 games were a mixed bag of everything. The 1st game, Groess shut-down Blaine. In the 2nd game, Hansen shut-down Centennial. In the section-semi match-up, it was a scorin...

Re: Week 7

I agree with you on the first goal. I didn't see the assists, and even watched the replay when I got home. On the 2nd goal, #4 battled in the corner, then scooted the puck up the boards to Goodreau who had to work hard and fast on her own to get the EN goal. I'm guessing a lot of teams pad stats. I...

Re: Week 7

Centennial just lost 3-0 to a Stillwater team that has won once in their last 7. With this loss, the Chiefs, er Cougars, have now dropped 4 of their last 6 so I think we can safely drop them from the top ten. I realize the 2 South Suburban schools haven't played the toughest schedule but the girls ...

Finally, Centennial with a nice 2-0 win over Hill on Goodreau's two un-assisted goals. But apparently assists get handed out for... moral support?... at Centennial? Re: Week 7

This week man good games. The top 10 will be vastly different than before: 1 Andover 2 Minnetonka 3 Edina 4 Holy Family 5- Centennial 6-Blake 7-Lakeville South 8-Risemount 9-Rogers 10-Maple Grove I would agree with the top 4, but then my shuffle would go: 5. Rosemount 6. Blake 7. Centennial (nice 2...
