You can't, as the MSHSL and NFHS, preach safety, safety, safety on one hand then decide once the the games are at the section or state tournament to throw the safety violations out the window because they don't want to influence the outcome of the game. The problem with that line of thinking is tha...

Re: refs keeping up
my hope was that this string I started would focus on refs keeping up and not getting in the way, rather than a general rant about overall quality of officiating. what are others seeing in this specific area, and what might the solution be to give the players the space that they work so hard to con...

Re: refs
Couldn't agree more.!!!I too saw this last night in the ER v Blaine game. One of the refs (with stripes) could barely skate, let alone keep up with the speed of the game. It cost both teams in different instances, both with penalties and or early/late whistles because he was too far behind the play...

Re: Most ignored rule in hockey
SITUATION: After Team A shoots puck on goalkeeper B, who is in crease, goal keeper B traps puck in equipment or catches puck in glove. A1 digs at puck or taps at puck and stick makes contact with goalkeeper B, (a) prior to official’s whistle, (b) after official’s whistle. RULING: (a) and (b) same, ...

This is the interpretation I spoke of earlier. Puck carrier turned because he lost the puck and was trying to gain possession. The defender had time to play that differently. If this same play wasn't called last week, it should have been. AHhhhhhh, sure good to see all the Moday Morning Quarterback...

Wayzata vs Osseo. I am guessing this is the check from behind you are referring to. Open ice check, offensive player turned at last moment so knew defender was there. Last week this was no call now it is major plus misconduct? Luckily this penalty didn't result in a power play goal. Here is link to...

According the the score sheet turned in to hockey hub she had 5 penalties for 10 minutes. 1 penalty in 1st for holding, 3 penalties in the 2nd-(cross checking, slashing and roughing) and 1 penalty in the 3rd for holding. 5 penalties of any kind in one game does get ya a game misconduct, but it's th...

Re: goal directed in by skate
g. any member of the attacking team (other than the player in possession of the puck) is in, skating through or has his stick in the goal crease when the goal is made from outside the crease, unless the goalkeeper is outside the crease when the play is made (in which case, the goal is allowed) or t...

Re: goal directed in by skate
What is the high school rule? Is it the same as higher levels (in that unless there is a distinct kicking motion the goal should stand)? There was a goal disallowed in the tournament that seemed to me would have been good by that criteria. Can't recall for sure, but I think the non-goal was against...

Re: Ref Consistency
I know a lot of people will scoff at this thread, but in the past 4 years, I have noticed quite a difference between the refs in southwest mn and the rest of the state. For those of you who aren't familiar with swmn hockey I'll do my best to explain. With refs like Ethan Anderson, it is not uncommo...

After watching the replay on TV, the light comes on before the horn sounded and also if you watch the clock on TV, it only shows the numbers to the left of the tenth dot. after timing it from 2 seconds to 1 second and using that same time frame after the 1 second went to zero, there had to have sti...

I've been watching this post and am actually surprised it took so long for this topic to come up. I was at the game, live in St Cloud, not a fan of either school, but figured it would be a good game. I was at that end of the rink when the penalty shot was taken. The puck hit the crossbar, came stra...

WBL vs Stillwater. Jan 29th Everyone knows I'm a fair judge of our team when it comes to penalties. We faced the worst ref i've EVER seen tonight. I can't believe a person can be so one sided. He hasn't realized his position. To be neutral and consistant. It was unbelievable. His name I think is De...
