Wow, 190+ reader comments after the article. No point in reading them all; we all know what led to the program's downfall. More to follow...SAD! Very true, but we must not say the reason!!! There will be more to fall. If/when more fall, it will have far more to do with cost and concussions than wit...

It's interesting. On the Hockey Hub Richfield looks as if they cancelled all the games until Dec. 15th. They were supposed to play Minneapolis on Nov 28th but now Minneapolis plays Kennedy on that date. Could they somehow just be delaying the start of the season until they got it together? On the o...

Re: Section 2AA

blueblood wrote:Marshall moved to Section 3A from 2AA.

Section 2AA remains at 7 schools like previous seasons. The #1 seed only needs to play 2 games to qualify for state tourney.
And right next door, 3AA remains at 10 schools, like previous seasons.

This was a very interesting topic (and thread). I am surprised that no one mentioned some non-Metro schools just south of the Twin Cities that have up-and-coming programs, play Metro schools, and may be easier to make varsity than in the big AA schools. New Prague and Farmington come to mind. Farmi...

Thanks for the feedback... I agree that there's been some pretty solid advice, but here's a couple of other points to consider... 1. While AAA in the summer is an option, many/most high school coaches run their own summer training programs from mid-June to the end of July (the State High School lea...

Section 1 is bad enough but to only have 7 teams in the AA section makes no sense. :x Makes even less sense with 3AA sitting next door with 10 teams (again). And if Marshall (the city) does get moved down to A, then 3AA will be sitting next to two sections with seven teams. Send Burnsville back to ...

Congrats to the kid. If you are good enough, scouts/colleges will find you-especially in hockey. Not that great an analogy... Yes, the kid played high school ball in AV in front of scouts and college head coaches as an eighth-grader. But by that point he already was a seasoned veteran of highly-sco...

This is not to say we should shy away from improving helmet technology. Nobody in their right mind would argue that we shouldn't do our best to lessen linear force absorbed by the head of a player. With that being said, don't go out buying a Warrior Krown 360 thinking you just saved your kid from t...

Because they have a single youth feeder program for three high schools, they can't really do much to tap into the community base, either. They're at the mercy of where the high school lines are drawn, and how many of the kids in their area go to Cathedral. It's not a guarantee that they'll disappea...

Better equipment won't solve it, in fact it actually may make it worse inadvertently in that the better the equipment becomes the less regard people have for their own bodies and others leading to more dangerous situations. The theory of risk compensation...now there's a blast from the past. Eons a...

Here is a way to look at this issue that might ease some anxiety. The Festival has 160 kids and 54 will be chosen to move on. -If the kid is easily in the top 30-40 kids, we will move on, so he should miss a game to take the ACT. - if the kid is in the bottom half of the 160, he has no chance to mo...

Is being a HS hockey coach actually a good job, now? There's no money. It used to be you'd get some respect and standing in the community, but now it seems that is getting to be the case less and less. There's certainly more money available to hire certain coaches at certain locations. All you need...
