What's up, Doc? One idea for the Tourney.

Who knows when the next State Tournament will be? Whenever it is, the MSHSL and Channel 45 should consider bringing in Doc Emrick to call the games. I know he is not everyone's cup of tea, but his distinctive voice and famous calls over the years would add a level of excitement to the broadcasts. An...

Re: One Change to the Playoffs/State Tournament

Here's an easy one: During at least one TV timeout each period, have a couple of skaters run a shovel to clear the snow near the benches. Every game the buildup of snow gets bad near the end of the periods, and from time to time this adversely affects the play. I'm not calling for a whole crew like ...

Re: AA Rankings for 1/26/20

Reading Karl's Section 6AA projected seedings again, I realize what may have been nagging at me: "Cretin, with the best overall body of work...." Yes, Cretin has a good record, but their schedule is so much weaker than the other top four contenders in the section. I know you can dissect th...

Re: AA Rankings for 1/26/20

Thanks to Karl for a great weekly read...always fun to think about! For 6AA, I agree it's a mess. The issue I have with Karl's proposed seedings is that for some teams (Cretin), their overall record is what is pushing their section ranking, while for other teams (e.g. Blake, Edina), their section ga...

Fun game to watch. Tonka rebounded well from the recent game at Braemar. And with a packed house at Pagel, the atmosphere was great. What wasn't so great was Tonka having a scorekeeper (looked like a student) who apparently had no idea how to run the clock. Coincidental penalties going up on the boa...

I am also curious where this information can be found. Part of my curiosity surrounds Blake. That team won the bronze division last year, which I believe automatically qualifies it for the silver. But I don't see its name listed (though Breck is). It is possible Blake has chosen not to play, but giv...

There have been some references within this thread (e.g. 'Tonka Schedule) to the Schwan's Cup Tournament in December and teams' first-round opponents. Are those brackets / pairings posted somewhere?

Another likely problem will be that referees, who grow weary of the criticism and issues associated with ending a game with time still on the game clock, will simply call less penalties. This, in turn, will make the game more dangerous at the youth level. The "development" will be for kids...

I am with BodyShots. Teams will continue to ice the puck. What's more, if it is late in the game, icing will become even more prevalent for the shorthanded team that is leading, as it will allow the 60 minute or 75 minute clock (depending on the level) to run off more time. My guess is that you will...

I agree with MWS. Play at the festival seems to have little correlation to which kids move on. My bet is that if would bring in a group of evaluators from another state to the festival who had no history with or connection to these players, the "final 54" list would be a lot different. And...

For those who can't make it to the games this weekend, here is what will happen: NORTH: Moorhead over Cloqet for #1 seed; Cloquet over GR for #2 seed. Apparently, the Eagles are the team to beat this weekend -- the YHH preview has Eden Prairie vs. EP in the final.

To paraphrase Ty Webb from Caddyshack, I guess EP will just have to keep themselves.

Russell Stover Tier I AAA Hockey

I have heard of some young players who left MN association hockey this season and instead played with the Russell Stover organIzation. I was curious how those teams did, so I went to the Russell Stover home page. http://www.russellstoveraaahockey.com/ . On the main page, right under the tryout secti...

Like Snyper, I have a major issue with the story. In fact, I cringed before getting past the headline: “YHH announces it’s finalists for the Wiz Wyatt PeeWee Player of the Year Award.” It's is the contraction (abbreviated form) of "it is" and "it has." It's has no other meanings-...

Sort of pains me to say it, but I though the Player of the Year Post this afternoon by Fred / YHH was very well written and very classy. Based on what I heard from some of the Edina parents, this was a good collection of young men who were well coached and played the game the right way. Evidence of ...
