Re: Early Departures 2019-2020

Brainerd lost a ton from last year and doesn’t have a lot to replace it with. They likely won’t be a major factor this year with or without Menghini. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a factor in his decision.

Re: New Body Contact Rules

I think what they are trying to accomplish is to restore the notion that the purpose of checking in hockey is simply to separate the player from the puck in order to gain possession of it yourself. It isn't necessary to have a high impact hit to accomplish that. Coincidentally, the game is better (I...

Re: New Body Contact Rules

I’m probably in the minority but I think the changes are positive and just hope they stick with them and get the change in play they are looking for. There is nothing exciting about grinding physical play. A skil game is way more exciting and it’s an entertainment business. I also disagree with the ...

VIII - possibly Roseau's year 7. VII - wide open 8. I - Lakeville or Lakeville? I’ll take a crack at it...... 1. VI - Edina...

Re: All Time All Tournament Team

Agree on the McDonough thing. He doesn’t belong anywhere near an all time all tourney team conversation. Great player and great post high school career. Not taking anything away from that at all. But I don’t see the all tourney thing at all.

Re: Let’s see some top 10 lists for AA, 2019

Stillwater and Moorhead will both likely be top 10 teams with top 5 potential this year. I tend to think WM has a decent starting point but has Blaine and Andover a bit underrated and Rosemount and Lakeville South somewhat overrated.

Muck..you sure about that? Edina, Blaine, Tonka, Chaska, Eden Prairie, Maple Grove and probably even Andover all had top lines that would have been tough to crack The kid is very good but that's a tough statement to support Plus about 10 other teams you don’t have listed but I’ll save the typing......

Seems like a pretty quiet off season so far regarding departures. Is there a strong movement towards kids staying it is it just early?

900 or so kids. And how many registered players in MN, mites thru Bantams? What percentage of the membership are we changing rules for?
I have no knowledge of the Minnesota Hockey birthdate data whatsoever......but a good solid guess would be about 8%......or 1 in 12...... :D :D

I’m guessing Duluth East. They’ll be down a fair amount this year and will have a difficult path to the X. A move to Hermantown for what’s probably a sure thing makes sense.

Funny. I’ve been thinking all along that Saville was the goalie from Lakeville South but that’s Dilaura who’s playing in Prince George. Thanks for setting me straight.

Re: 2019 HP U17 or U16 Boys Rosters?

I can be a little slow a lot of the time, but I don't understand the logic of how extending the season out is "giving the kids a break" Getting it done with as soon as possible after the natural hockey season and then putting the skates away for the summer as much as possible is giving the kids a br...

Re: NDTP Invites MN edition

The higher count mentioned might have been the total including girls If you are referring to my comments I’m referring to men’s hockey only. Over time there are usually 200 or so men’s hockey players from MN in college hockey. That number has been pretty consistent over time. If you figure those pl...

Yes every kid chosen on this years NDTP team will play college hockey...But so will another 15-20 kids from Minnesota with the same birth year.
Assuming you mean D1 college hockey. Even so.......that number would be more like 40-45 than 15-20.

You don’t think outstate kids that have to travel for HP care about going to prom?

They would have been in the mix to win state. You can't say that about STA or C-DH next year. Maybe Hill. I like what they have returning.
I can’t imagine Gentry would have anything close to the depth needed for this to be a reasonable take.

Looks like he had Brinkman as high as 25th overall last summer and Helleson as an early second rounder as late as November. Wonder why he has their stock dropping that much in both cases.

Easy. Don’t do anything. Leave it as is. Dont try to bring a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. The options discussed here will only make the things people say they don’t like about the tournament bigger issues.

I’d count that but with a giant asterisk. Pretty tough to arrange it geographically when every team is within 20 miles of each other. Any others?

They don't typically have that many move ins. Last year was a bit of an anomaly with 2 (Motzko and I think Kittleson. One other that transferred from HF already lived in the district and previously played for Tonka youth teams), the 2018 team had only Brink I believe. Depends how you look at it. Ne...

Re: New State Tournament Format (or my day dream)

Honest question. Is anyone aware of high school state tournaments anywhere that don’t have a geographic component to them? Isn’t it likely this is just how high school sports are handled everywhere? They are by definition called “state” tournaments.
