There's a kid on my son's track team who is a senior who just transferred in. Small town school near a larger town, and he needed a smaller atmosphere. Gets to participate in meets, but he doesn't score because of the current rule. Kid doesn't care. Just likes track. His future D1 college coach does...

If his behavior in the penalty box and language towards the ref are true, shame on the ref for not giving him 10 or kicking him out. All this did his reinforce this behavior will be tolerated! I would guess that 100/100 times when a HS player uses the F word at an official he is gone! Kids make mis...

Somebody please just explain how Hacking Hank makes the all tournament team. One assist in three games and Wayzata's best 5 minutes all week is when he's sitting in the box for a major. He really did little to nothing other than run around looking for heads. There were at least 2 other Wayzata D me...

Agree. Mine tried every sport and activity known to man through his elementary years, mostly to figure out what he liked best and what he was best at. He dropped tae kwon do because after advancing a bit, he found it got too serious for him, for example. Same with a lot of other sports.....as the ki...

You will never please everyone with the tryout process. The numbers make it nearly impossible for it to be perfect because you will never have the perfect mix of players register. For example, if you typically have enough for two teams, A and C, you won't be lucky enough to have 16 A kids and 16 C k...

I like the idea of being able to pay a little extra to skate up one level one practice per week. By that I mean, a B kid can pay an extra hundred or two and practice one night per week with the A kids. I think it would only amount to a couple extra kids on the ice, yet those whose egos are hurt get ...

I think if you do this, you're dumb. Reality TV producers are known to make stuff up and manufacture drama. If your child has any shot of going anywhere, you would blow it by doing this show. Everyone knows parents are a factor in choosing players for teams, and no one wants the cray cray ones! Besi...

Did you play squirt hockey? Do you remember how many games you won? I'm going to go ahead and guess that you don't. I don't remember how many swim meets or golf meets I won in high school, and that is more recent than squirt age. I think parents and kids get caught up in the right now. I get it...it...

Looks like fun if you have the money to burn. I can tell you my 13-year-old won't be playing in it this year. I mean, it sounds fun to go play in Chicago, but you can't use points for the hotels--must pay full price and probably a jacked up rate at that. For the money, my kid can play in a camp clos...

Yep! That is exactly what I'm talking about, guys. In those situations, it's perfectly acceptable, in my view. And if parents are getting on you for that, maybe their special snowflake should find some other activity to participate in, like basketweaving or video games. Parents yelling crap like &qu...

I think that once kids hit squirts, they are fully capable of paying attention to the coaches and should be expected to do so. They're 8-10 years old, and they're on the ice for an hour. It's really not too much to ask. Screwing around when the coach is explaining something? I am okay with the coach...

I think there are two ways to play hockey beyond high school--natural talent or be crazy enough to put in enough work to get there. That being said, at age 7, this is too much. I have a young man who was that passionate at that age. He still is. However, he has figured out that mom is right--HE is t...

For my son, when he has played C's, his frustration came from some of the kids wanting to play at a higher level and wanting to be competitive, but some of them just wanted to play for fun. Nothing wrong with either, but it's hard when those kids are all on the same team. You also have kids who want...

Not an expert, and some may not agree with me, but I've always viewed tryouts as a cheap clinic. 10-20 bucks gets your kid on the ice with a bunch of kids he doesn't know, with a coach he probably doesn't know, and gets him exposure to drills he may not know. He may tank a tryout or two now, but lat...

The way our association does it is if they played B's at that level (SQ, PW, Bantam) last year, they can skip tryouts and stay on B's. Must always try out for A's. First year in a level are always C's unless you attend tryouts. So if he were a first year bantam in our association, he'd be a C unless...
