Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

I don’t think anybody is saying we should go back to a 1 class system. I just think there are AA teams that play A and those teams should move up to keep with the spirit of allowing other teams a chance to play at state instead of having two state tournaments that have equal caliber teams so the fa...

Re: New State Tournament Format (or my day dream)

I'd go top 32 AA. Play a super weekend in 2 or 4 locations. Top 8 advance to State. If you go to 32 you're starting to get into Tier I/Tier II territory where AA is too watered down, IMO. I feel like winning the AA tourney with only 16 in AAA still feels like an accomplishment and less like a bigge...

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

Why was the two tier and/or two class system created? Answer: To give more kids and teams the opportunity to play at state. Why are we trying to create two equal tournaments? We have AA caliber teams playing against and beating up on the weaker towns. I can’t agree with that being ok. I don’t think...

Section 8A will be strong.
I know EGF had at least one (possibly 2) Bantam kids playing on the High School team that went to State.

Re: Greenway/Hermantown

The Hawks are rolling with 13-0 and 9-1 wins over Hibbing and Virginia. Those types of game can lull a team a bit, especially if they are looking forward too much toward state rather than the sectional. Greenway won't be intimidated and will give it everything, but last year's state semi-final loss ...

Re: Dream State=Dream Curse.

I agree warmupthebus. I can’t believe they are continuing to do HDMN after a kid got bad frostbite this year. Not worth the hype IMO. It is a great event that players want to be a part of, but it is optional. It is also an event that get bigger each year. While some may not want to be a part of it,...

It just seems weird to have a #66... Also, I know some schools/colleges have traditions surrounding certain numbers. I was just wondering if there was a similar tradition with #66. Kids have been wearing that number at TRF for decades. Just another number. Not quite sure I understand why it wouldn'...

Although I don't see it happening anytime soon for a Hermantown move up, I would say the D- Marshall makes the most sense.

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Looks like Virginia-MIB gave the Hawks a game last night, I suppose there will be a calling for Virginia-MIB to move up to AA now, they pulled in 6 kids that open enrolled from Eveleth-Gilbert/ME and one defenseman that open enrolled from Ely/Babbitt all to play hockey in Virginia. They are definit...

What if I told you the State of Hockey’s biggest rivalry took place between two of its smallest school? I have not seen them play, but am also not surprised to see them be pretty successful. GF is the hockey capitol of North Dakota and their HS and Youth programs benefit from the popularity of UND Hockey, having EGF right across the river, and their proximity to NW and Western MN Programs. The communi...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

I'm not sure what is arguable and non arguable, but January 1st doesn't work well in Minnesota because so many kids age out of Bantams after 8th grade. I think July 1st seems to be working fine. So a January 1 date would basically push up about half of second year Bantams to High School, correct? I...

The only non arguable, that will take any gripes out of any policy would be Jan 1. If it is arguable to anyone I’d love to see a debate on this. Of course everyone has their bias but how can birth year be debatable? The argument is non existent in Tier 1. I'm not sure what is arguable and non argua...

I'm not sure how anybody could argue against that. This is one of the easy ones Elliott. Don't let them screw it up. So what date is that?
