Re: The Hermantown Thread

Although I don't see it happening anytime soon for a Hermantown move up, I would say the D- Marshall makes the most sense.

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Looks like Virginia-MIB gave the Hawks a game last night, I suppose there will be a calling for Virginia-MIB to move up to AA now, they pulled in 6 kids that open enrolled from Eveleth-Gilbert/ME and one defenseman that open enrolled from Ely/Babbitt all to play hockey in Virginia. They are definit...

EGF isn’t beating Hermantown this year, no way ☝️

What if I told you the State of Hockey’s biggest rivalry took place between two of its smallest school? I just sent the article and your quote to a friend who has produced a previous 30 in 30 for ESPN. GB That is a fun connection to have. I’m sure the minds atESPN will come up with a more creative ...

Re: Grand Forks Central

I have not seen them play, but am also not surprised to see them be pretty successful. GF is the hockey capitol of North Dakota and their HS and Youth programs benefit from the popularity of UND Hockey, having EGF right across the river, and their proximity to NW and Western MN Programs. The communi...

It's nice to see (at least one) Hermantown parent has integrity when it comes to this single a BS...and by no coincidence... his son currently plays in the NHL...his name is...Scott Pionk =D> Scott Pionk is my hero! Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

I'm not sure what is arguable and non arguable, but January 1st doesn't work well in Minnesota because so many kids age out of Bantams after 8th grade. I think July 1st seems to be working fine. So a January 1 date would basically push up about half of second year Bantams to High School, correct? I...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

The only non arguable, that will take any gripes out of any policy would be Jan 1. If it is arguable to anyone I’d love to see a debate on this. Of course everyone has their bias but how can birth year be debatable? The argument is non existent in Tier 1. I'm not sure what is arguable and non argua...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

I'm not sure how anybody could argue against that. This is one of the easy ones Elliott. Don't let them screw it up. So what date is that? School cut-offs don't work the same way as they do for sports. In Minnesota a kindergartner must be 5 before Sept 1. It does not say every child born before Sep...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

Let me guess. A few parents who have kids with June birthdays and held them back from Kindergarten want them to be the oldest at the level and use the grade argument? I suppose the July and August Birthday parents made the same case when MN Hockey changed it to July 1st. I'm assuming the majority o...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

Keep the July 1 date. It is becoming more common for late summer birthdates (especially August) to start K the following year. In my experience this date allows more kids to play with their classmates.

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Absolutely. Enrollment only matters to those very few that are trying to hide behind it. If enrollment was that important, none of us in the Hockey world would have ever heard of Eveleth, I-Falls, Roseau, Rapids, Bemidji, Warroad, Cloquet, Hermantown, EGF, TRF, list goes on an on. And Minneapolis w...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

The problem with hockey is that school enrollment does not mean much. The quality of the youth program is the most determining factor (and ability to keep kids in your program/high school) that really matters. Absolutely. Enrollment only matters to those very few that are trying to hide behind it. ...

Re: Checking in bantams

In my observation, the removal of checking at Bantams and stronger enforcement of more dangerous hits has created a Bantam game of more skill, puck movement, and positioning. I see more kids playing the puck, or puck and body, than just hitting. The emphasis is more on separating the puck from the p...

Looks like that was kind of an anti-climatic game. Roseau 5, Warroad 0.
Roseau has one of it better teams in recent years and Warroad is down.

Re: Checking in bantams

I was skeptical when they removed checking from Peewees, but I have to admit I think it has improved some things at the bantam level. That said, I don't think it should be removed from the higher level of Bantams, but would support having a non-checking level.

Re: 8AA 2018-2019 seaso

I'd say Moorhead has the best opportunity to take the 1 seed if they can beat Roseau in their final match-up. The two Roseau -Brainerd match-ups obviously have a big say as well as their games with Moorhead. If Bemidji can beat STMA they lock up the 4th seed, otherwise the 4-6 spots get murky for Bu...

Why?

'Cause TT will be in Bemidji.

Everyone/Anyone please stop by.
You may even get an autograph.
May be even a free cup of coffee.
Free cup of coffee would mean I would have to buy.

Re: CEC boys High School Hockey to A

This topic brings up three questions I have for the sake of discussion: 1.) There are 3 long-standing opt-up programs in CEC, Roseau, and Bemidji that are at least rumored to be considering not opting up. Why and for what reasons would they now considering not opting-up? 2.) Conversely, there are 3 ...

Re: CEC boys High School Hockey to A

CEC is still a AA program and should remain so until thru the 20-21 season. But beyond that I don’t see them as able to compete at the AA level the way they should. Similar to Bemidji who had a nice run a few years ago, but are really an A program who be a contender at that level, but HS and youth t...
