You mean your system doesn't allow for the sitting president to have the final word on which names are or are not on the ballot? Someone from outside the good ol' boys network can be nominated from the floor, and written in, but that announcement doesn't get made until a good portion of the ballots...

Sounds pretty familiar to me. Except most people don't have the balls to say it -- surprised we haven't stirred up the old "why don't you just get involved, volunteer..." I will bring it up. We have lunatic parents in our assn. Nothing but complaints and "better" ways to do thin...

On of my sons played rather consistently on B teams. That is where he belonged. BTW... I was board president. On these teams there was always a group that thought their kids belonged at the higher level. They were convinced that the tryouts were rigged. Funny thing is that our B teams were never tha...

4 - The underlying assumption is that your judges, coaches and board members are all liars. All of them? Yes. I am envious of you and others that have a board made up of benvolent leaders. It must be wonderful existing in such a utopia - I mean it, really wonderful. For some, however, it is possibl...

Board tainted tryouts make a few assumptions. 1 - That the try out judges care a wit about what the board wants. In most cases these are volunteers reluctantly agreeing to do a job that no one else wants. You must also assume that they are liars. 2 - That your board is united and can get the liars t...

How many families that can't pay 100.00 for mite hockey consume 1000.00 worth of Mountain Dew a year? If it were not such a book keeping problem associations would be better off to charge per session for mite hockey. In our assn we have a ton of folks that can't figure out that 100.00 once is a muc...

Our school district quit letting groups do handouts to the kids. I don't think we as hockey parents do ourselves any favors when we go on and on about how expensive the sport is. The one thing that non-hockey families know is how expensive the sport it. When you ask them how much... they can't answe...

I voted training, but the real reason for my kids was that they loved it. New friends, hotel, pizza. I enjoy that as well.

Re: Silence

Has everyone kind of moved on from posting about AAA hockey on this site? We've had a few spring tournaments now but nothing about them mentioned around here. People in Minnesota just don't seem to get that into AAA hockey. It's kind of a letdown after an Association season . It is a good way to st...

I am a parent who loves to attend every practice. I also love to watch tryouts. I just watch. I have my nightly bottle of pop and catch up on local events. I will admit to fishing for the the funny stories of hockey parent angst. I love to watch tryouts. My favorite part is watching parents slowly u...

Not a big surprise. A lot of people just don't like the cross-ice mandate, or any mandate for that matter.
"New boss...,same as the old boss."

My guess is with just a bit of searching you can find a huge crowd of people that hate the AAU rules regarding whichever sport they are in.

I don't know. You only have to go back a generation or two and none of these things existed for many.

The whole chasing around doing this or that is very recent. I am not convinced we are better off.

Alot of those kids who don't do anything are not obese, though some are. They are all weak & soft, if you know what I mean. Never been pushed to excel. Not only is it a health and security risk but how how are we going to compete on an economic level as a nation with a generation of weak indivi...

I was once run up the flag pole because you could read a kids name on the back of his jersey through the somewhat translucent tryout penny. The kid was the tallest kid in our assn and skated like an ostrich. You could have put him in the Mr. Kool-Aid suit and everyone involved would still know who i...

I was on the board years ago. My youngest is now a Jr in HS. We did participate in AAA in the summer, loved it. As a non athlete myself I was glad when my kids asked to play. I was looking for some physical fitness and character building that I always heard was found in sports. The fitness came, but...

Outside Evaporators? From where? In the southern MN all of the "hockey guys" can recognize and name most of the players within an hours drive. I think it's funny. We go out of our way to put our kids in anonymous uniforms. Again, most can be recognized at 100 yards by the way they skate.

Parents can be divided into two distinct groups. Group one is the "participation" group. They would prefer tryouts not exist. Just group the players by age and hope the coaches match lines. They are convinced that 80% of your assn is hyper competitive and will ruin the sport. Group two is ...

I have always thought that it would be better if MN Hockey would lighten up a bit on the roster requirements. Tryouts are much less of a big deal at high school because of the way a player can move from JV to V and the visa versa. I think it would promote better play as well. If Little Johnny Super ...

Our small assn does a rough calculation of what it costs to run each team including ice, tournaments, games etc and divides that over the average number of players. People complain. They take the time to figure out that this team got an hour more ice than that team, etc. I know of some associations ...
