On the STMA coming-on conversation. I heard at a different sporting event from an STMA parent that his child's 1st grade class has 1000 kids. I do NOT no the accuracy of that statement but if true or close to true I think we will be seeing a lot of good STMA teams in many sports. It appears Andover ...

Just saw East won in OT. Congrats. I really hope those of you saying the North is OK are correct. I can't help worrying numbers and opportunities will continue to favor cities teams.

So if Andover wins tonight we finally get the metro only state tournament. Is this the future?

Tayor Heise a Rochester Perspective

This season Rochester Mayo has its best team in a long time and probably won’t be this good again for an even longer time. As good as this team has been it could have been a lot better. Mayo could/should have the state’s best goalie (UofM playing for Mayo boys), top defensemen (Shattuck/UMD), and Lo...

I know this will be unpopular with the back to 1 class group but should we consider adding another class/tier. (Please no "give everybody a trophy" comments we seen it enough.) The gap from the bottom of AA to the top of AA has grown significantly. Or maybe expand A to include more teams a...

US Lacrosse is moving to 1 year age groups for saftey. Most contact sports use this philosophy. I think MN Hockey should look at going to single year groupings for safety. I know it would be a huge change, and a challenge to small associations, but anyone who has seen a July birth date 15 year old g...

Following SC’s idea here is a thought. Mandate associations with: 30 or less players A, B1/B2 45 Players (3 teams) A, B1, B2 75 players (5 teams) AA, A, B1, B2, B2 90 plaeyrs (6 teams) AA, A, B1, B1, B2, B2 105+ players (7 or more teams) AA, A, A, B1, B1, B2, B2... Another option: Listening to Doc’s...

Docs_88, your right the system is flawed. I thought SCBluline's idea might help fix it. I don't think the AA/A designation is working like it's sponsors hoped. I assume it was to provide opportunity for the smaller associations to compete. In general I think MN Hockey wants to give autonomy to each ...

SCBlue - I like your idea of MN Hockey dictating the number of teams associations field at each level based on the number of kids. I would add that you would need to tell the associations that equals even teams at that level not AA1 and AA2. I am starting to think if MN Hockey doesn’t mandate this w...

Stromboli, the talent was impressive, not mind blowing but very good depth as you would expect. The game was just ok. Chicago's goals were kind of weak. Shattuck special teams were amazing! Clearly lots of focused practice. The game was also more physical then what I have seen in high school games l...

I recently watched #1 Shattuck play #2 Chicago Mission (now#3). I went thinking this will be rocking 1 vs 2 game. There wasn't a soul there under 40 minus some kids who just finished a Peewee game and stuck around to watch a period. It was the most boring environment I have ever seen in high school ...

To those who feel the refs are so terrible there is a simple solution...become a ref yourself. You clearly have the ability to make perfect calls every time. My guess is you will find out A. it's a really hard job and B. fans and coaches are out of their minds...(and see through biased eyes). Why do...

Nailed it Nevertoomuch In my Shortening bench = bad coaching post I should have been more specific. I assumed that given this is the Youth Hockey Forum we were talking youth hockey only. Yes in NHL, D1, and HS situational substitutions and riding your top 6F/4D is common and warranted when the goal ...

Shortening your bench = not coaching. Anyone can win with the best players. Good coaches can be successful playing the whole team.

Reff22, the ref was older (30-40 year old). No nonsense guy. Like I said haven't seen it called that way since. He called it by the book not the "unwritten" book. I feel for refs given there is so much judgement left to the refs. I wish it was more cut and dry. Example charging rule 42.1: ...

CoachK, I wasn't wrong about the 32 year old...I was not speaking about her, I was speaking of the CURRENT Rochester girl who is the states leading scorer. I included a link to last years national camp roster. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I only posted to show an opposing view of your example of a Ro...

Two years ago I coached a Squirt team playing in an Andover tournament and was taught a good lesson. We teach our kids "play to the whistle". Ref comes over and warns both benches if you whack the goalie covering the puck even before the whistle it is slashing...he called it that way and g...

CoachK, point taken outstate stats are a bit inflated. However this is not the 90's and the Rochester girl in question made the high performance national camp at her level. Look at the HP rosters at each age level. You see girls from Red Wing, Dodge County, EGF, Warroad, and yes Edina. Great players...

For those of us outside the metro we really appreciate YHH coverage and inclusion of our teams. Not to mention your coverage of all levels of youth hockey (AA/B/Girls etc...) Thanks.

To Sour Grapes and 2019. What I am saying is if yhh and teams who play in the tournament don't want people questioning what they are doing get it sanctioned. If they can't get it sanctioned isn't that itself reason to question it? Analogy: a group thinks the state hs tournament isn't the 8 best vs. ...

YouthHockeyHub...First, love YHH. However, here is my problem with the Squirtacular. Our associations top SQA team practiced for two weeks after the other SQA teams season ended with districts. That was ALOT of valueable solo ice paid for by the association for this one team to play in the squirtacu...
