What JSR said, x 1000. My kid soars when she can get her groove on and score once in a blue moonl. But when she's in the bottom of the heap, she gets Eyore-like and thinks she is the worst player in the world. I hate to throw this in there, too, but it can also depend on the team. One team might rea...

Girls Hockey is Growing!
Good news for the future of the growth of girls hockey in Minnesota: After tryouts this past month, two Machine teams were created - Orange and Black - for the '06s. (Last year there was only Orange '06.) Say what you will about the Made and Bernie just wanting the checkbook parents to join up, yada...

Re: Best Skills Program at PeeWee Level
Hello all: Doing a little brainstorming here in anticipation of 2016 (I know, I know). For all of you who have had kids do skating / skills clinics in the summer, which have you found to be the most useful? Value for money, quality of the coaching, etc. My hope is to just pick one camp for her for ...

Re: Off-Season Hockey
USA and MN hockey know this and instead of telling mom and dad to get out of the locker room and stay away from the practice rink and treat the game as just another way to sneak a peek at your buddies hot wife, they just keep saying play other sports. What they mean is we hope your kid can find a s...

Re: girls hockey
I don't think all girls think of it as social - I've heard this before. My daughter is on a boys team (they are also her buddies at school) and they are young enough to hang out w/o it being "weird" - and they do at school - and she does with her girlfriends, too. But she doesn't see it ho...

Re: IMHO
4 on 4 half ice no goalies at mites and 8u have so drastically reduced development at those levels that if I had another kid coming up I wouldn't even bother. No skating, no passing, no learning positions. An 8 kid cluster f***. HEAR, HEAR! Ringettes and soccer balls on the ice are an insult, event...

Color My World...in Jerseys (Edina this time)
Hi Ya all - Jersey time. What are the color-levels in Edina, i.e. who is the top of the heap color-wise? Green? White? Black? I think I've seen yellow sometimes? Also, do other schools have multiple colors for their A & B teams? I know our local association different color jerseys for levels, bu...

Doesn't appear there is much interest in this topic. Anybody else notice that FSN wouldn't even put a girls game on TV during HDM, at a time that was watchable at all. Pitiful statement about the value of girls hockey in Minnesota. Oh, they did put one on t.v. This says it all: The University of Mi...

In reality she probably took a spot from a boy that likes to play hockey but doesn't have any real passion for it and will never play after HS. You're brilliant, Bluehawk. She'll probably take the puck from him with a filthy dangle, too. Even with half the ice time as the boys, the girls STILL dese...

Taking Girls' Programs Seriously in Association Hockey
I'm starting this string after posting a positive reply to the long slam on Edina's Girls program in an earlier string. Another reader suggested I start a new string as many others had probably had the same experience with their own associations and could probably relate to their daughter('s') exper...

At least the girls' program is taken seriously
At least the Girls' Program is taken seriously in Edina. We just had to switch our daughter from the Girls program in her association (in an unmentionable very large nearby city adjoining Edina) because that association just doesn't put the resources into its Girls program - even though they promote...

I know the family and what the Star Tribune editors so carefully decided to leave out was that their daughter takes a lot of breaks - long breaks in the summer and winter, also plays tennis and swims, and now wants to learn golf. They also decided to pick the busiest week of the four months they had...
