Re: Early Christmas Present: Boys State Hockey Tournament (Meeting Dec 3rd)

I think Monday Jan 4th would be the best. Get through the holidays. Give teams 2 full weeks for tryouts and practice. The model shows if the start is 1/4 or 1/18 the season will be 13 or 11 weeks and go till the 1st weekend in April. Eh, I'd give it to January 11. The idea of kids, families, etc. m...

Re: Light at the end of the tunnel?

Surely news to be optimistic about. My hope is that there is a buffer between Christmas and the start of practice. Maybe January 11th is reasonable? The idea of kids going to rinks and then to their families over the holidays is a bit concerning. One more surge of infections in January and the winte...

Re: covid and MH

Kids play organized sports almost 52 weeks a year, and we're worried a four week pause is going to affect their physical and mental health? That's not worth responding to. If anything, kids are over-programmed in the modern world. I'll listen when these same parents file lawsuits (like the #letthemp...

Re: covid and MH

The only burden the Governor really needs to meet is: does this restriction inure to the health, safety and welfare of Minnesotans? If so, he can do it. In this instance, the problem is looking at hospital capacity and sick hospital / health care workers. Look to Arizona. They have enough hospital ...

The problem is, none of those on the “it’s no big deal”/“just open it up”/“kids hardly ever have bad outcomes or die from this” side of the debate ever acknowledge or are willing/able to provide real facts from legitimate experts to support their positions/opinions. I’ve said a number of times now ...

So you paid for 10 games. $21 per game. You played 7 games. $30 per game. The league provided a service. Refunds would be difficult. They may have encountered unforeseen costs, or they will be able to charge a little less for a future program. Frankly, the rate at which they put this whole league t...

Re: 20-21 season

My guess - a truncated season that starts around January 10 to allow for tryouts and a "preseason." Season ends on 3/20 with some sort of Section tournament, so the spring track / lacrosse seasons can begin end of March. If the previous guidance holds limiting the teams to 2 games a week, that would...

Re: covid and MH

Still genuinely waiting for somebody to show me the part of the executive order that specifically closes hockey rinks? Confused how that became the assumption. Or is this a business decision because keeping rinks open with no youth hockey teams would lose money? Again, I may be looking in the wrong...

(get ready for business, Hudson and Somerset) Nope. MN Hockey is forbidding any team from practicing or playing outside of the state as well. If a team tries to play out of state they will be treated as an unsanctioned team as defined by MN Hockey and USA Hockey. The emails have already been sent o...

A total shutdown seems absurd to me. Why not dial back to only skating with kids in your own community in pods, similar to when hockey opened back up? No games but limited contact and exposure going back to phase 1. Try this first instead of a complete shutdown. What does the statistic as quoted by...

If this is true WHAT A JOKE. Anybody want to explain the "science" behind Walz's decision to treat pro and college athletics differently? I have a feeling that an economist might be able to explain it better than a scientist. NFL, college sports, etc have proven they are not immune. Could it be tha...

Guessing Jan 1 is comeback date, after 2 major holidays. Walz slipped and said 4 weeks... my guess. January 1 would be 5 1/2 weeks if he started the "pause" on 11/23. I surely hope it won't be that long, but it might have to be. No good answers here. Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa al...

8,700 positives today in MN. A 35% positivity rate. The pandemic is out of control. I think we might be beyond masks stopping the spread of this virus. It's worth doing it, but we're in trouble. 11/12's report was based on 1,956 infections per day (14-day period). 11/19's will be based on 2,825 infe...

Re: covid and MH

To me, the best situation is to let the players keep practicing in their bubbles and play. If there was a testing regime, they'd be able to proceed without concern but, that wasn't a concern in this country. So I would suspect many schools will practice, play games, hope for the best, and shut down ...

I don't think the Governor has much more time before he has to do something definitive to stop viral spread, if he's going to.

7,200 positive cases today in MN with a 15% positivity rate.

Remember - current decisions are being made based on an average of 1,900+ cases per day.

Add these facts onto the pile. The report on 11/12 will have an average of 1,956 infections per day, or, an increase of about 28% from the 11/5 report. The report on 11/19 will be based on the time frame from 10/26 to 11/8. This timeframe has an average of 3,362 cases per day. We have bad news comin...
