Re: Minnesota Hockey Taking Over?
One question around the third liners are all going to go be stars with their buddies playing junior gold now and the coaches are going to lose them. If that was such a great option.......what would have been stopping that same kid from doing that last year or the year before? Look at what I said. I...

Re: Minnesota Hockey Taking Over?
Losing control of High School hockey by the MSHSL and local high schools is a real possibility if this all happens. This could be the first domino to fall in losing high school hockey as we know it in MN. MN could very well be on it's way to the midget model like many other states already have. Hig...

Re: Minnesota Hockey Taking Over?
Will the MSHSL willingly hand over it's biggest money maker in the State Tournament? Even if it is just for a year. That is a huge amount of revenue, both tickets and TV. Especially TV if limited fans are allowed. I can't imagine they are in a position to give this up, even for one year. They would...

Re: Minnesota Hockey Taking Over?
I don't have an opinion/preference on where it'd go from here into the future. What I am suggesting is a "1 year Covid approach" where instead of having an Edina team playing in the MSHSL, they instead are sanctioned by MN Hockey and play the exact same 25 game HS schedule and section playoff forma...

Re: Minnesota Hockey Taking Over?
Wet Paint Interesting thoughts about HS coaches perspectives on the situation But what would prevent the Lake Conf youth associations , for example , each marshalling a “Varsity” JGold team, with Giles, Oleary , Smith, Goldy and the others taking the coaching job? Might look like a step down. , but...

Re: Minnesota Hockey Taking Over?
If MH takes over, coaches will need the following: 1) register with USA Hockey. 2) complete USAH background check 3) complete SafeSport training 4) complete Age appropriate training (u-16/u-18 module) 5) be current on USAH level certification. Once level 4 is attained no additional level move up or...
Re: CoVid-19
As of Saturday the youngest Minnesotan died of Covid-19, he was 44 and lived in a long term care facility. That brought the average age of a Minnesotan that died from Covid-19 down to 83 from 86. Of course the average life expectancy of Minnesotans is 78....every death is a loss but from the day we...
Re: CoVid-19
Snipped some stuff out to keep the post shorter. If there was a comprehensive testing regime (like Germany or South Korea) and contact tracing in the US, we'd all be back at work already. We all know why it didn't get set up in January and February. The fact it still doesn't exist 3 months into thi...
Re: CoVid-19
I am certainly no medical expert here but I believe Goldy hit it pretty well a few posts ago. If the country stays locked down much longer we will have problems far exceeding the virus. I can see no reason why we can’t protect the most vulnerable and also let those not at heightened risk to get thi...
Re: CoVid-19
As of this morning Mayo Rochester reported >10 hospitalizations due to COVID-19, Mayo is a regional, multi state provider. (There are other hospitals in the area not affiliated with Mayo in Northfield, LaCrosse, Rochester, Mason City, and Winona.) Granted, the population density in SE/SCMinnesota, ...
Re: CoVid-19
What? This isn't a "left" or "right" issue. It's common sense. The virus will spread again. The reason it has? Inadequate (or no) testing, no vaccine, and large groups. If there's treatment and/or a vaccine, we're in good shape. If there's nothing, and people return to "normal"? Bad news. ***** I s...
Re: CoVid-19
This is a cost-benefit analysis problem that will need to be addressed very shortly. Everyone will have their own opinion, there is not a "correct" answer here, there are going to be many trade-offs and none of them are going to be pleasant. It will be an exercise of making these trade-offs and sel...
Re: CoVid-19
Sadly, I fear what is coming this summer, especially if states allow normal movement without containment of the virus. Without a vaccine or mass testing, we're going to have a second (and third) wave of this virus in 2020. People in many states (no need to point them out, they aren't hard to find) ...

Re: The Hermantown Thread
Like I said before Andrews stands in the front lines taking the fire for staying in class A. All the fans and players just sit back and soak up the praise and trophy’s. With no intent or desire to move to class AA. No pressure or heat on them they say they are being blocked by Andrews or Clark. Let...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020
I agree of not making you’re schedule easy , that sets your team up for Failure. My point is they need to dump QRF and go back to the way it was are find a better system that plays strength of schedule into affect kinda like college basketball has started doing this year, because it’s not fair to b...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020
wet paint Yeah that is true but, I would rather have my team in the 2-3 seed if I was cloquet. The 4 and 5 seed is a tough first game, one mistake and you’re season is done in the first round plus if cloquet was the five seed they travel to forest lake on a Tuesday night. Can you win as a four seed...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020
The purple are going to have to put a win streak together now because it seems QRF doesn’t like the teams they play? They are sitting at the fifth seed right now. True right? If their QRF score is too low they don't make the playoffs and have a shot at it...……… no wait...………. everybody makes the pl...

Re: The Hermantown Thread
No chance they would be the favorite every year with just there own players. When that was so they were a easy out. They would be competitive but not the favorite every year. They wouldn't be AA competitive every year at youth levels either I have to admit that I have not dived that deep into Herma...

Re: The Hermantown Thread
Why is it so difficult for people to realize that Hermantown does not have a magical potion or secret sauce, it is simply they have a good base program and then add a few of the areas top squirts, pee wees, bantams, and hs players every year. Simply put it is a numbers game. They take there base an...

Re: Future of Duluth Marshall
Well I can't speak to every coach but the ones that I know or have known in areas where they have or had junior gold teams the coaches supported and encouraged junior gold play. Bemidji will have junior gold next year and the coach is very helpful in promoting it. I am sure there are selfish coache...

Re: Future of Duluth Marshall
If a kid is playing for fun, Junior Gold should be an option. Not available everywhere, but those areas that have larger numbers where most of these problems as described exist offer it or will offer it if asked. I agree to a point. Jr. Gold is not for everyone. There is a reason they make the team...
