Re: Mn kids leaving HS hockey for elsewhere ...

ok fair enough, so the kid has had to play last year (2013-14) on a MSHSL varsity team, and has (2014-15) MSHSL eligblity this year to be included. Then add these kids ... I added all the AA kids with a single notation. How do you know Adam Maxfield is leaving Austin? Adam played in a couple of Jr ...

Re: Mn kids leaving HS hockey for elsewhere ...

By creating or expanding your list to include kids who choose to go play UST1 or some other league, and totally opt-out of MSHSL is painting the whole picture of what you are trying to portray by having your list in the first place. Thanks for your input, but I'm portraying exactly what I intend to...

Re: Mn kids leaving HS hockey for elsewhere ...

Add these kids to your list... ** home town or Mn HS To clarify, this list is for kids who played MSHSL varsity hockey in 2013-2014, are eligible to play MSHSL varsity hockey in 2014-2015, but have chosen to play elsewhere instead. Most of the kids on your list left prior to the start of the 2013 s...

The best accurraccy of a solution is usually determined by minimizing the function to achieve the smallest sum of the squares of the observation residuals. In the LSQRANK case, I designed in flexibility to adjust the importance of the weighting components. To find the best solution, you should run m...

MN & GS Hockey Fan... I guess I'm a little surprised that EGF finished higher than Blake, and that BSM finished higher than Hill-Murray You need to adjust your weighting parameters in the KRACH software, if they exist? Regardless, the plus/minus standard deviation of the overall solution is larg...

Bulldog, You can be humerous in a good way when you want to, its a good first start. For the purposes of testing commerical software and reporting its results, I'll just agree to disagree with you with regard to the content of the data set, numerically if there was a game played with two teams, a co...

Not sure if this is even possible in your version of KRACH, but you might want to try using a parameter to down-weight games that you feel that need to be de-emphasized ("for social reasons") instead of corrupting your data set by changing actual scores. That might solve your SOS issue and...

Bulldog & Bowhunter, Sorry about the terse responce above, so I just want to clarify my meaning. Its just not a numerically sound practice to exclude "meaningful" data that contributes to computing a solution. Like it or not, these teams are linked numerically, thus excluding data for ...

Hey guys, No dribble here and not whining. It's just plain mathematics that by having more observations, i.e. the Total Redunancy = Number Total Game Observations - Number of Unknowns. By increasing the total redunacy in the system of equations, one gets a better solution to the entire data set and ...

No because they were all real games with actual stats and score sheets just like all the other cross-over games played against other WI,ND,SD, etc teams. LSQRANK is a computer ranking system that takes out the human (political)biases. Besides if I took out the AA data arbitarily, then I would be obl...

Yup, The observation equation used takes in account more than just winning the game, it uses shot differential, penality kills successes/attempts, accounts for major penalities, and open net goals. I have not implemented MOV corrections for short-hand goals yet. Anyway, getting back to the 3-1 win, ...

How to numerically handle upset games in Rankings?

Section play-offs are almost at their conclusion, and for the most part the higher ranked (computer ranking or otherwise) team has prevailed, except in two general cases: (1) Where the two team were a statistical tie going into the game; and (2) the upset where a clearly lower ranked team manages to...
