OU
It's 7-7 right now (USC just scored), and I'm going with Oklahoma. The Pac-10 has been exposed over and over again (including the pathetic effort by Cal in a game they thought they were FAR too good for), and OU has been tested by better teams all year. That said, USC has some excellent players and ...

Re: Uncle Puckhead
The people at Minnesota Hockey aren't closed minded? Is this why our Peewee and Bantam teams are ineligible for nationals? Is this why we no longer have Silverstick regionals? Is this why we are the only district that didn't conform to USA Hockey age rules? The fact is that Minnesota Hockey stuck it...

Re: Roster
I have paid zero attention to the proceedings at the Select festivals, but I can say quite confidently that many, many kids have been granted a free pass to the Final 51 over the years. If I recall, the Shattuck kids get a pass because they have nationals at the same time as the first festival (thou...

Re: What is midgets
The way that USA Hockey does the age groups now is that you are organized by year of birth. Minnesota Hockey, owing to the fact that almost everybody who plays youth hockey is trying to end up playing high school hockey, decided not to make this switch. That's why kids from out of state have differe...

Re: Denver University - National Champions!!!
They've got to do something about that rule where they call off goals for toes in the crease. After that debacle of a season (the one where Dallas beat Buffalo in the finals), the NHL changed the rule so that the goal would stand unless the guy was interfering with the play, because calling off goal...

Re: What is midgets
Since nobody has chimed in yet, midgets is the level after bantams, though Minnesota only has two midget teams officially recognized by USA Hockey (I believe), Shattuck's U-17 (Prep) and U-16 teams. I guess you could consider the Junior Gold A and B levels a form of midgets, but I don't believe that...

Re: jefferson/petey?
It's tough to say. One reason that I think is pretty significant is that JHS hasn't won a state title in 10 years. When I was growing up, they won it 4 years out of 6, so nobody wanted to do anything but be a Jaguar. But, when Trebil left and those guys went with him, that all started to change (and...

Congrats to Matt. He should get to split time with Howard--who is awesome and would be a great guy to learn from--and then be the #1 when Howard graduates or goes pro.

Re: 'bluejay'
I read an article earlier in the year in the Junior Hockey News magazine about the Danville Wings and their early-season success. Hoehn was one of the main reasons that they were doing well (according to their coach) because he was doing all the little things well even if he didn't show up in the st...

Re: Great 8
Man, there's a lot of confusion about what the Great 8 is. Alex Goligoski is not on the 7AA team for the same reason a lot of people aren't on these teams: if you are already committed to a D-1 team or are playing in the USHL right now, you don't play in the Great 8. The Great 8 is a place for playe...

Re: petey1321's 20/20 'hindsight' AGAIN !....by SS
As I recall, I said that Centennial and Moorhead were the best two teams, but that Moorhead had the much easier road to the title game itself (which it did, thanks to a completely overmatched section and not having to face 5AA and 6AA in a row), which made Moorhead the favorite despite not being the...

Automatic choice. He could either sign now, take his money, and start his career (and training with professionals), or he could wait another year, win another national title, and hope to God that there wasn't a lockout. Now, when the teams get locked out, he'll have a big war chest to sit on and he ...

Hey, I'm not greedy. I don't need Tom Cruise or any pretty boy, and I'm certainly not going to offer my part to a scientologist. I just need somebody who'd rather live here than France, and Jeff Spicoli just doesn't fit the bill. Maybe Emilio Estevez circa 1987, as long as his dad doesn't get involv...
