Re: Games of the Week

Beef with me aside, have you seen the plays? I’d encourage you to watch them before defending them.

Re: Games of the Week

She hasn't been kicked out of any, to my knowledge. She received no penalty at all for the assault on Sauer (Andover). The hit was 50 feet away from the puck, and I am guessing no official saw it live. They obviously had a chance to after the game, but there was no subsequent match penalty given, ev...

Re: Games of the Week

Looked like 15s was a 2 minute cross check and 10 for complaining, but I'm not sure. The initial hit was from behind, but it was more shove than a real crosscheck. If they gave the 10 for the hit, that seems like overkill - 2 minutes seemed about right. 14s was yet another dirty, dirty play. Very ap...

Re: Games of the Week

Totally! Those Andover dads are clowns!

Great win by Tonka! Their first line played great - particularly Rauk and Mack. Must have felt really good to get over the Andover hump!

Epic goaltending duel between Uma and Sedona - that was one for the ages!

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

There was a lot of terrific hockey and close games to discuss yesterday (including a thrilling OT game by your favorite squad*, and what looks like a great performance by your Ms. Hockey favorite). I am sorry my posts led you to ignore all of that and instead were called to respond to this fairly in...

Re: Games of the Week

I think it's too bad for teams when expectations are too high. Centennial has an outstanding player in O'Hara, but lost a key piece in Goodreau last year, and are very young. Not sure who is on the coaches panel that votes, but it clearly is not a group that collectively stays well informed about ot...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

Well that comment and the countless others. "Boerger has been the best player on the best team for a few years." Just putting the pieces the together. And my comment about the SSC was rather tongue and cheek. However AHA, Simley, Crookston, Marshall, EGF, Mound WestTonka and Bemidji don't strike fe...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

You took a pump for Boerger, specifically, out of that paragraph? Hmm. And Warroad always has some embarrassing blowout wins. And I don't think Bartz is the best player in Minnesota, in spite of leading the state in scoring. But current PageState SoS ranking (vs top 4 teams in South Suburban): 13 Wa...

Re: Games of the Week

Fantstic win by Champlin coming back from down by 3 - fun to watch (on Livebarn). BSM has a ton of team speed - very fast as a group. And an absolutely electric, highlight reel goal by Lizzy Hamel from BSM - fantastic play dancing through 3 defenders before dekeing Blair. That, plus a deflected shot...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

Great comments - thanks for sharing your perspective! A couple of thoughts building off yours - Hause is a very strong player - deserves consideration. The one real goal scoring threat among the top D beyond shooting from the point. The Gazdik's are both very strong, too, and have put up similar str...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

Some other great starts so far: Boerger has 10 points in 5 games (don't believe she played against Armstrong) - all against top 10ish teams - 2ppg Sajevic has 10 points in 6 games against top 10ish - 1.83 Broz and Higuchi are 2 and 3 in metro AA scoring - both have 2.3 ppg (only behind Puppe who's p...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

Per PageStat thru 12/10 their SOS is 7th for Gross and and 3rd for Net. My comments were for their entire season. They have played a solid schedule so far. If you’re talking about a kid’s point production, gross is what matters. Hmm. I get it. But when I say “here are some early thoughts on Ms Hock...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

If memory serves you've commented knowledgeably about Breck in the past, so I assume there's some history in your remarks. That said, I think you're wide of the mark. Both Corniea and Lindsay have had - let's just say carefully managed careers. Neither would ever have been allowed to play on a weake...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

If championship pedigree were the deciding criteria, I don't think three single A wins in 7th, 8th and 9th grades as a role player (with Mobley and goaltending driving the bus for those teams - and Mobley accounting for a high percentage of Lindsay's point totals as a young player) would rank as hig...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

All certainly reasonable (and I appreciate your thoughtful time), but I also think that reflects something like the consensus. The award should go to the best senior, and, in my opinion, that’s not her (enough so that I think it’s a hard case to make, outside of reputation). Consensus and wrong seem...

Re: Things that actually matter

And I know this board must seem to be pretty narrow in its focus. I'm pretty much the only one that posts regularly, so it obviously covers a lot of "Things that actually matter (to me)." I'd love for the board to be a richer and more varied source of info and comments about girls high school hockey...

Re: Things that actually matter

I figured I'd start a post outside of j4241 ripping tonka kids. You know, something different. Looking at all aspects of Girls hockey, not just how good Andover and the top players are. Things that jumped out: Burnsville/9 other schools over AVHS 5-1. Shocker! AGREED BSM 5-1. Young and decent AGREE...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

Oh yikes - and Zumwinkle? Automatic I think the closest comp would be Norby - highly promoted for years, very good player but clearly not as good as Bullock. There isn’t a single obvious candidate this year like here was that, but that’s because Norby was probably the second best player. This year t...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

No way - Jungels was a bigger shoe in, Maddie Wethington, Hemp, at least. Not to mention Brandt, camerenisi. But the gap between the likelihood of her winning and the degree to which she deserves it is as big as anyone. She deserves to be a candidate. Was the best 8th grader. Clearly no longer the b...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

This CBS interview with Lindsay tells me the Ms. Hockey campaign is in full swing, and wanted to share a few early thoughts (many more games to come). I am offering this as a counterpoint to that sales pitch, but this is not intended to be a criticism of her - she is a fantastic hockey player, clear...
