Re: Elite league

We are talking past eachother a bit, which is my fault. My original point was that USA hockey's point of view should not exclusively dominate in identifying the best players because it's biased. You shifted the conversation to express concern about another point of view dominating, with its own bia...

Re: Elite league

No - unless that one person is selecting both. I think a thoughtful process is better than an individual, and USA hockey certainly has put together a thoughtful process (albeit one with biases). But one thoughtful process and one independent selection by a knowledgeable individual (even if marred b...

Re: Elite league

One point I will make - if Winny uses USA hockey attainment in placing kids in the elite league - I think that's a mistake. She should make her own judgments. Otherwise an opportunity for independent judgment and evaluation just becomes a circular exercise in self-reinforcement and confirmation bia...

Re: Elite league

Well said. I don't mean to beat up on it - I agree it is a good thing for kids to have these opportunities! My point was just that identifying someone as achieving some level of the USA hockey process is not proving to be all that great a demarcator of their ability. But it's fun to watch, it's fun...

Re: Elite league

That’s an incredible collection of talent! I also fully take your point that the teams are well matched, and look forward to watching them play each other at some point. The only thing I would add is I’m increasingly skeptical of using USA hockey accolades as a barometer of talent. Just as a for ex...

Re: Elite league

Sounds like the hot take is 19 White is every bit the team 19 Black is - impressive! I would not have guessed that looking at the rosters, but that's why they play the games! Will be fun to watch some of those tilts, and vs SSM. I believe the below is correct; Black has 5 current or former U18 team...

Re: Elite league

That 2-0 37 save shutout must have been a goaltending gem... IMO, all 4 goalies played extremely well. I believe the only goal was a rebound on the 3rd shift. I thought the play was pretty even. Black carried the play for stretches and white carried the play for stretches. Really fun to watch.

Re: Elite league

Apparently they heard our request for stats - and went hard in the other direction. There are no score updates from this weekend (and there were a lot of games). Anyone know outcomes? I think: 19 Red vs 16 Grey - 4-4 16 Black vs 16 White - 5-1 16 Black vs Gemini - 4-2 16 White vs 16 Wisconsin - 8-3...

Re: NAHA

I think "Funtimes" opinions and points warrant a conversation. However, probably would have been better received and produced a better discussion, if it was brought up under a new thread. This post was a positive post, about the success of 3 OS teams, at one particular tournament. A tournament that ...

Re: NAHA

There are two different subjects that are being conflated. The first is USA Hockey and youth hockey tournaments, such as NAHA, Beantown and all the many others. Birthdate and age does make a difference and at every age classification level. There are exceptions, yes, but they are called exceptions f...

Re: NAHA

While I agree with the birth year not being as relevant to college scouts, understand that every other teams roster would look very different if they were based off of grad year not age. College scout also want to see competitive games. They can’t tell how good a girl is if the games are lopsided e...

Re: NAHA

Birth year stuff is ONLY relevant imo with USA hockey. Look at the rosters of the teams in each division. Not one mention of birth year ONLY graduation years. That is what matters to coaches from every D1 school in the country along with nearly all relevant D3 schools from the northeast and many Ca...

when you turn the league over to a for profit organization, you get favoritism to the for profit organization. Plus a lot of pay for play. Don't need to try out to make teams even if you don't make beyond spring festival
This post received the appropriate amount of support and responses.

Re: NAHA

Pretty spectacular performance by Minnesota teams this weekend at the NAHA Labor Day tournament. My understanding is OS teams have won twice - ever, at any level - in the history of this event prior to this weekend. OS teams won at the U19, U16 and U14 levels for a clean sweep! Congratulations to t...

Girls Elite League starts a week from Tuesday and still no rosters announced... This. Is. Killing. Me!
Team assignments were sent last week. In the email, it indicates rosters will not be published until the start of the league.

Re: Rumors from the rink

How can attendance be made "mandatory" during the fall HS sports season? A majority of players show up if they can and race from the court/field/course to a game to do so. Maybe don't sign your child up if you can not make it. Nothing more frustrating for EVERYONE involved, when the commitment is w...

Re: Rumors from the rink

Has nothing to do with the Hs player everything to do with what people were talking about. If true not the players fault . No coach should hold a spot on national team over a kids head. You have no idea if it is true, but went ahead and dropped the players name anyway. Go after Maura Crowell all yo...

Re: Rumors from the rink

Tis the time of the Year where Rumors run hot. Hottest rumor heard at OS Shootout was that Katie Davis has decommitted from Harvard and committed to Duluth. The rumor around the rink is that UMD head coach promised a fourth line center spot on u-18 national team if she did this. If this is the trut...

Congrats as this is a huge honor. I’m only concerned as how young are we getting kids committing to college programs. I’m 8th grade I was excited and looking forward to starting hs in 10th grade so cant imagine what the logic and process is for a 8th grader trying to decide on a college offer. I’m ...

In the MSHSL, the regular season is limited to 25 games...I recall conversations sometime back that there might be a reason that allowed 26 games, but, I don't recall the specifics...That being the case, I see where SPU & WBL have 26 games scheduled....Is there a mistake on the HUB or am I missing s...

Agree to disagree. As someone who also knows and has often spoken with the coach and AD, I can tell you they are proud to run up the score like this and have their top line players scoring their 5th goals in the third period. You act as if they were helpless to not score 20 goals. Play your 4th lin...
