Re: 2020 MS Goalie

Any of the above goalies seeing any ice time? Not sure if injuries are in play or not, but the Hub is showing zero ice time. The CI goalie (10th grader) had a nice first showing. Although it was a game between maybe the two weakest teams in boys hockey - still a nice first boy's varsity game for he...

Re: Tonka/Andover

This doesn't apply to anyone's particular post in this thread, but as good as Andover's forwards are, I believe a fair amount of credit goes to their D as well. Andover's top 4 D are as good as any and they are not given their due credit. Especially offensively, as their positioning, puck control an...

Just curious as you have seen both play quite a bit. I have only seen my daughter. [/quote] Ahhh, I got ya. I was responding to MNHockeyFa...

Re: 2020 MS Goalie

Vetter will be - she is the best youth goalie in the country right now and by far the best female HS goalie in the state. As far as Ms. Goalie, it is pretty simple and no real debate. The goalies made their choice to prepare for the next level, which is a personal choice and I respect that. However...

Re: 2020 MS Goalie

I don't follow girls high school hockey as closely as I used to, but I am a huge fan of the women's team at the U of M. In my opinion the Gophs have not had a truly elite college net minder since Amanda Leveille, and before her, Noora Raty. So it's been about 5 years since the home team has had a g...

Re: 2020 Ms. Hockey discussion

Many of the the players that will be considered for Ms Hockey have to take into account there schedule. Some of these players are playing extremely tough schedules. The out state players that don’t play any games in the cities have to be excluded from the list. Rud for example had less point as a j...

Great for NWC & Maddie! I thought it was another player that moved from the "move in" thread when someone talked about the "Sheldon's" moving to NWC. Makes sense now...I am excited to see how she does with that group of players!!! Word on the street is that mom got tired of dad getting out coached ...

Re: 2020 Ms. Hockey discussion

I absolutely may be wrong but I do not think that Skelton is at NWC. I believe that it is another player from that team. She is elite and would absolutely make that team much more of a threat in the Lake Conference and sections. Skeltons moved to Monticello over the summer she is playing for NWC Gr...

I don’t think it was common knowledge when it was posted to this board. Maybe common knowledge is different for us.

Not a big deal. Just giving the guy credit who brought it to the board.
Must be.

And

I agree, not a big deal.

Wow.
Vindication for someone on this Board who brought this up last month.
Vindication? No one questioned whether the player withdrew a verbal commitment to Harvard and committed to UMD - that was/is common knowledge.

Re: Elite league

We are talking past eachother a bit, which is my fault. My original point was that USA hockey's point of view should not exclusively dominate in identifying the best players because it's biased. You shifted the conversation to express concern about another point of view dominating, with its own bia...

Re: Elite league

No - unless that one person is selecting both. I think a thoughtful process is better than an individual, and USA hockey certainly has put together a thoughtful process (albeit one with biases). But one thoughtful process and one independent selection by a knowledgeable individual (even if marred b...

Re: Elite league

One point I will make - if Winny uses USA hockey attainment in placing kids in the elite league - I think that's a mistake. She should make her own judgments. Otherwise an opportunity for independent judgment and evaluation just becomes a circular exercise in self-reinforcement and confirmation bia...

Re: Elite league

Well said. I don't mean to beat up on it - I agree it is a good thing for kids to have these opportunities! My point was just that identifying someone as achieving some level of the USA hockey process is not proving to be all that great a demarcator of their ability. But it's fun to watch, it's fun...

Re: Elite league

That’s an incredible collection of talent! I also fully take your point that the teams are well matched, and look forward to watching them play each other at some point. The only thing I would add is I’m increasingly skeptical of using USA hockey accolades as a barometer of talent. Just as a for ex...

Re: Elite league

Sounds like the hot take is 19 White is every bit the team 19 Black is - impressive! I would not have guessed that looking at the rosters, but that's why they play the games! Will be fun to watch some of those tilts, and vs SSM. I believe the below is correct; Black has 5 current or former U18 team...

Re: Elite league

That 2-0 37 save shutout must have been a goaltending gem... IMO, all 4 goalies played extremely well. I believe the only goal was a rebound on the 3rd shift. I thought the play was pretty even. Black carried the play for stretches and white carried the play for stretches. Really fun to watch.

Re: Elite league

Apparently they heard our request for stats - and went hard in the other direction. There are no score updates from this weekend (and there were a lot of games). Anyone know outcomes? I think: 19 Red vs 16 Grey - 4-4 16 Black vs 16 White - 5-1 16 Black vs Gemini - 4-2 16 White vs 16 Wisconsin - 8-3...

There are two different subjects that are being conflated. The first is USA Hockey and youth hockey tournaments, such as NAHA, Beantown and all the many others. Re: NAHA

While I agree with the birth year not being as relevant to college scouts, understand that every other teams roster would look very different if they were based off of grad year not age. College scout also want to see competitive games. They can’t tell how good a girl is if the games are lopsided e...
