Re: 7A - Thoughts

Congratulations to the students at Eveleth, Virginia and surrounding cities. Hearing Fort Frances and IFalls could be next, sports wise. I'm guessing it would work like the Baudette/Rainy River situation.

Re: The Hermantown Thread

So, what's the answer. What could the MSHSL do to stop this from continuing to happen? Seems pretty rare nowadays to see top teams with all homegrown kids. And to me that is what made MN high school hockey special. It's turning into Midget or Junior hockey where kids can pick and choose where they w...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Well said, IRMN. It is sad what high school hockey has become. No pride in one's hometown or dedication to the kids they grew up playing with. Just looking out for #1. So, who is the family/kid moving into Hermantown?

Re: Roseau vs. Warroad

Nice article, Karl. What an awesome rivalry. No matter if one team is way better on paper or not, it is anybody's game whenever they square off. These games are played on pure emotion.

Re: Section 7A seeding

Could of been like the days of old when the majority of the teams in the Section thought they had a chance at State. How exciting would 7A playoffs be this year without one of the best AA teams in the State in their Section. It would be an absolute blast to see who would come out of the Section this...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Here's a thought... All Section 7A teams should drop Hermantown from their regular season schedule, so they have to pick up 8 or so games throughout the year. They can keep traveling to the Cities to play those AA games they do throughout their entire youth seasons. 7A teams need to band together an...

Those boys have watched and rink ratted with the older boys since they were little. Now is their time to continue the tradition
Yes, I’ve heard Joe Pierce would drive down from Ely every weekend since he was 7 to watch and rink rat until he enrolled in Hermantown this year.

Re: Is Greenway turning into Hermantown?

Post 1985 (or whenever open enrollment came along) a family had to change jobs, sell home and move to the new district. Greener pastures was not in the vocabulary for the overwhelming majority of athletes as sport was not top priority in the day to day affairs of a family. At the time dad would tel...

Re: Is Greenway turning into Hermantown?

So, looking through this thread... Greenway has 5 kids coming in this year from other places? 2 - Hibbing, 1 - Ohio, 1 - Elk River, and 1 - Out East. Seems legit. Must be the long term development they talk about up there.

With Denfeld’s win over Eveleth it seems like the seedlings would be 1, Hermantown 2. Greenway 3. Virginia 4. Denfeld 5. Eveleth 6. Hibbing 7. Falls 8. North Shore 9. Proctor 10.Ely Let the games begin. So I guess we agree Northernlakes. We both can’t be wrong. :-) Seeds 1. Hermantown 2. Greenway 3...

1. Hermantown 2. Greenway 3. Virginia 4. Hibbing 5. Int'l Falls 6. Eveleth 7. Duluth Denfeld 8. North Shore 9. Proctor 10. Ely There are still a lot of Section games left, but right now this is how I see it. With the remaining games 1-3 are set in stone, 4-6 being a toss-up, and 7-10 pretty well set.

Heard Proctor had three kids get 5 min major and game ejections versus Int'l Falls. That is probably why they did not play against Greenway.

Heard that Bill Owens had applied up in IFalls. Sounds like he is a good Coach, but also heard there are some other issues that may outweigh that.
