Re: Might be an ugly season...

I think this issue has been mounting for a while. Every year we see how upset people get about big hits coming down at state when the northern teams roll in, and how it affects the play. As the game gets faster and quicker, and there is more of a drive towards reducing injury, the fine line of how t...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020

I can tell you from direct experience with a similar situation. A interim head coach could set the program back. If there is an opportunity to simply make a hire, that would be ideal. If the guy you want is available, then yes absolutely hire him. However, if the guy you want (long-term) is in a he...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020

Some thoughts from a elite Grand Rapids hockey mind: They MUST hire for stability. Say what you want about Bruce LaRoque, but he was consistent and was in it for the long haul. These constant 2 year stints by coaches and a somewhat revolving door on the assistants side are not good for a storied pr...

Re: University of St Thomas

The Wolves averaged 7.9k attendance last season. Yeah, but, the Wolves are not in Champaign, they play in the northwest suburbs (Rosemont) where most of the youth hockey takes place....the Mission went downtown ,which is stupid, the Fury are down by Joliet, but the highest number of rinks and young...

Re: Bantams vs. High School

First I think that if you have the ability to paly a second year of Bantams, it is more beneficial than going to play JV. The pace of play is slower, the players are not as strong or fast, and the player can develop their confidence and skills. Plus if you play more games in Bantams which means more...

Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?

Let's not forget they cut 3/4 of the players that tryout for HS, law of averages and history shows he has more talent as a whole than most schools every year to choose from (except MG from #'s). He should be able to win more consistently. Not saying anything about him not being a good coach, but so...

Re: New Body Contact Rules

I didn't see anyone say anything about going out of your way to "finish a check". Finishing should be as a part of the play, many times if you dont "finsh" and let that guy go free.. you are out of the play.. Difference in taking yourself out of the play... sometimes it happens, but most times you ...

Re: New Body Contact Rules

I’m probably in the minority but I think the changes are positive and just hope they stick with them and get the change in play they are looking for. There is nothing exciting about grinding physical play. A skil game is way more exciting and it’s an entertainment business. I also disagree with the...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020

Duluth Marshall! That’s not going to last long. Hermantown and Duluth East gobble up all local recruits. They moved to 7AA to protest the hamsters being in 7A. Please go back. It’s embarrassing 😐 Hey Kniven! Yes, it is pretty embarrassing watching my kid play at Marshall. NOT!!! The move to AA had ...

Anoka hockey now in 7AA. What’s there story the last 20 years? Are they trending up? What hockey program are they a feeder to? I know they won a state championship within the last 20 years. Anoka better than Elk River and Forest Lake. Who will be the typical 4 teams on the bottom of section 7AA now...

Re: New Body Contact Rules

This issue over the past few years has been one of my biggest complaints. I am a big guy, who has some speed but not top tier. I don't have great hands but can shoot alright if given some room. I am the enforcer on most of my teams in charge of keeping other players in check. With all of that in min...

I saw over the weekend Jeannette isn’t on Waterloo’s 30 man roster. He was listed on the affiliated list
I wonder what he is going to do. He wasn't picked up by an NAHL team. Think Randolph will take him back?

WOW!! that's big losses at East. OUCH #-o Yeah, on the surface, it appears they will struggle to score goals. We'll find out if Coach Mike has a rabbit up his sleeve. Re: 2019 Elite League Rosters

I really like how they have formated this, for the most part. It seems as if the cities teams have all been mashed together. The Plains and North teams seem to have outline's to an extent, but I feel that may be more for ride-sharing and hotels. A few surprises from the "North" team this year, GR ha...

Re: Early Departures 2019-2020

I agree with Kniven on this one - for a coach to use the words "banish" to a player sounds way out of character. If he said he was going to leave and the coach doesn't play him and opens up a spot for another player, that sounds like moving forward. However what do I know...everyone can act a bit i...

Re: Wisconsin has its own Hermantown in Superior

Superior will not hurt Hermantown's "recruiting" The Wisco Tourney is not nearly the same as ours. It's quite sad to see pictures actually. Superior is also not alone in D2, Northland Pines, which is from Eagle River area, was in the top 3 all year, and they are in Div. 2. They are also far smaller ...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

What would be an interesting statistic is what percentage of a team’s roster is on free and reduced lunch. I know for Greenway’s full roster there is only one player (bench player) who might be on free/reduced lunch. This f/r lunch figure has a significant impact on the pool of kids that will/can g...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

So, what's the answer. What could the MSHSL do to stop this from continuing to happen? Seems pretty rare nowadays to see top teams with all homegrown kids. And to me that is what made MN high school hockey special. It's turning into Midget or Junior hockey where kids can pick and choose where they ...
