Re: 7A - Thoughts

This will put tremendous pressure on the remaining high schools in the area (MIB, Mesabi East, Cherry, Northeast Range, Ely, North Woods, Chisholm) to keep their students and not lose them to open enrollment. This new school could really make it tough on the remaining small schools to maintain fina...

Re: 7A - Thoughts

That makes them the largest Class A school in the Section. This will certainly make them a contender for the #2 seed every year. The downside is that you cut in half the number of kids that will be playing high school hockey. I also wonder how this will affect the youth hockey programs at each comm...

Does your enrollment figure include Mesabi East? They coop with E-G.
Ah, that's right. That puts it at 985, close to Grand Rapids' enrollment.

Re: 7A - Thoughts

Looks like Virginia and Eveleth-Gilbert will be combining schools. Enrollment for hockey will increase to 761, just a shade higher than Hibbing's 746. If Hermantown ever leaves, the new VMIBEG team should be a perennial top 3 seed in 7A.

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Yikes! Your defense of transferring your kid to Hermantown for anything other than bald-faced trophy-chasing is as weak as your forum posting skills, so I bolded your post so no will think that I am capable of such desperately deluded rationalization. Why not move him earlier than his senior year? ...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

You know it all's crack me up. Lets set the record straight. First off I hate to break the news to the haters. Fact Biondi and Pierce will be back next year. So quit talking about it or hoping they leave. Second, nobody at Hermantown wants the Virginia kid (who is going to Hermantown next year, loc...

Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season

Hmm... it now seems like every team that has some semblance of success is a target on this board. I remember Luverne taking shots. Hermantown, Warroad, EGF, Alexandria, Orono, Totino Grace, and so on and so on and so on. These are just the Class A schools. Let's be honest about something. It is not...

Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season

Warroad and everyone else in Section 8 better get on the recruiting trail if they want to keep pace with EGF. The starting goalie next year is a transfer from Grand Forks who sat out last year. Rumor has it a couple more blue chip recruits from the Grand Forks side have decided to move across the r...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

I threw up some HS-centric thoughts on UMD over the weekend: https://apatientcycle.com/2019/04/15/doggedness/ I made a mention of the Hermantown-UMD connection there, which is obvious. Looking back at recent rosters, the only real front-line D-I players over the past decade from Hermantown who didn...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

Changing gears a bit, I am copying a post from the USCHO forums that touches on an interesting point regarding UMD’s success, one which was echoed by a friend of mine who is a UMD alumnus and is a season ticket holder. As someone who has been going to UMD games since the early 80's as a little kid,...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

Obviously turning into a Lucia type pout fest on here... College representation is creeping up in percentage in the NHL and the longer development is turning undrafted players into future NHLer's. A win-win. Go ahead and watch the 18-21 year olds play 35 year olds in the NHL if you can't handle it....

Re: CTE in Hockey

The first study you cite is 3 years old and there are obvious issues with the study. The article even spells out those limitations. So, nothing to gleam from that study at all. The second study you cite actually reads as more of a warning of concussions. It talks about while some of the testing sho...

For some balance in this thread, here are a few sources that cast doubt on the CTE uproar. Obviously, CTE and concussions should be taken seriously, but in the name of intellectual honesty, it should be noted that the "concussions=CTE=suicide" hysteria promoted in the media should, at this point, b...

Denfeld losing a ton. They will have 2 forwards and goalies. Period. The 2 forwards returning were Denfelds leading scorers. Re: Biondi gone?

While his development would certainly accelerate at the NTDP, this kid will be a great player for UMD even if he stays in HS. The draw, of course, is a very solid chance to win a state title while staying at home and spending senior year with your friends. Cathedral does return a ton, but Hermantown...

This topic has taken an interesting turn. I wouldn't have thought in 100 years we'd be talking about whether STA, et al opting down would be a good thing!

Agreed. That is why I desperately want an explanation as to why this would be a good idea, and what a "B" tourney is.

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Read prior posts. If every team that dominates class a goes to aa, you will have a b and a tourney. Take the sunglasses off bud. Why do you think the Class A tourney is a "B" tourney? Opting up to AA isn't permanent. Any team that feels they can compete in AA for a while is welcome to go back to A ...
