Re: Games Thursday 2-1-24

Not to get this thread down a rabbit hole of restructuring the sections and state tournament, but imagine a Semifinal Friday at the X of Tonka, Wayzata, Edina, and Chan. That would be one for the ages.

Re: AA Rankings for 12/31/23

Some thoughts on top 10 that make these rankings difficult. I think too much weight is being put on the opening weekend Thanksgiving festivals. Edina’s only strong win is game 1 against a new look MG team where Maple Grove carried the play. In turn, BSM’s only strong win was against Edina. Other th...

Re: AA Rankings for 12/31/23

To clarify, I think BSM and Edina are both top 10. Just pointing out the challenge in where to place them and how the early games are having a strange weight on it all.

Re: Summer HS varsity festival schedules

Rogers fans will be making reservations at the Holiday Inn across from Xcel based on this wknds performance I'm guessing Sure hope not. They will be good, but it was summer hockey. A test of which team has the most varsity kids available for the weekend. Also know of many coaches who use the tourna...

Re: 2022-23 Transfers

Things are too quiet . Must be some last minute transfer activity unfolding somewhere? What would be the last date for a residence change to ensure eligibility? You must be hearing the same rumors most of us in the west and southwest metro are hearing. I’m guessing it won’t be certain until mid-Nov...

Re: 2022-23 Early Departures

We are hearing that Chaska sophomore star Sam Spehar will be joining Sioux Falls Power U16s this week for the season . Strange move here. Didn’t Chaska just hire his dad as an assistant coach? Sioux Falls? Why such a low end program? I could be wrong, but I’m guessing his dad is no longer coaching ...

Re: 2022-23 Early Departures

Is the Chaska dad the one who had a Bantam AA goalie last year and decided to move to juniors in Iowa to get more games, or are we talking about another kid? I do not have a goalie, but I do understand the need to get more games -- WIth the HS league at 25, and odds are good the top goalie will get...

Re: NIL coming to a high school near you

I don’t know if NIL/MSHSL rules will permit compensation for just individuals , or members of teams also? Example : what if 5 girls got together and split the revenue for a commercial , including the phrase “ we play hockey in Andover , Mn” or a T-shirt picture which said “ Andover girls hockey “ ....

Re: 2022-23 Early Departures

I recall the other goalie who played on their super bantam team then played with the Gamblers Jrs , and is now enrolled at Minnetonka HS, is that correct ? No fault of the coaching staff either. If you are actually involved in this program, which I’m sure you are, you would know this is absolutely ...

Re: Sections 2AA and 6AA Finals

Mariucci (and Ridder) are both way more expensive than Braemar/BIG. Not just ice costs but for these games they are renting out entire facility, so it’s different than a squirt team holding a scrimmage there. MSHSL wouldn’t make its money back if it sold out Ridder, and combo of lower attendance at ...

Re: Sections 2AA and 6AA Finals

Most section 2AA coaches did not like the Olympic sheet for section finals. Coupled with dropping attendance for a more expensive venue, I think the switch to Braemar was inevitable.

Is it true that a kid who played as a Soph on Varsity for EP, then went to Dallas last year is going to Tonka this year?
I heard he was coming back to EP, but wouldn’t be shocked to hear he’s sailing for bluer waters.

Some very interesting info floating around south of 494
If discussing Southwest of 494, hearing Chanhassen coach Willis has resigned. Crazy if true in one year Chaska, Chan, HF all new coaches.

Curious for those in the know on the college side of things.. with a lot of new recruits committing to University of St. Thomas, some or many as soon as next season, what happens to the existing D3 players? SOL? Chance to “try out” or play their way onto the team?

Thanks for posting. By my count it looks like a three-way tie between Moorhead, Maple Grove, and Chaska with the most sending 3 each. A few with two. Nice variety this year.

Re: Class A semifinal--Little Falls vs Dodge County

Two takes that generally concur with above posters: 1. I generally side with the refs in most games, but with video review both of those calls still managed to be screwed up. Should have been 2-2 late into the 3rd which would have been a blast to see. 2. This is exactly what class A state tournament...
