Re: MH Sept 2020 board meeting

This is totally a petty question but I'm fairly new MN Hockey and have always been curious....why do Minnesotan's refer to it as 19U hockey when USA Hockey doesn't recognize 19U youth hockey. Is there something I'm missing? Wouldn't any kid currently in high school (junior or senior) be eligible for...

Since most volunteers who would keep SOG stats are parents I think it is relevant to point out how hard it can get to track the shots while also watching a kid play.
rocket science....i get it.

Re: Shots on net - Stats Youth Hockey

AP, you're all over the place here. Teams are required to track SOG and publish through the USA Hockey affiliate, then you backtrack and "a majority of competitive leagues" keep stats for skaters and goalies. Which Tier II leagues are tracking statistics? CSDHL doesn't, and that's the best Tier II ...

Re: Recruiting 2020-21 Season

Not a non-story, but one that takes time to work through the process. Kind of a moot point now. If there’s determined to be an ineligible player not much to do now. Strip their section title and void the 4th place finish. the dude who started that thread you are referring to was obviously impacted ...

Re: Recruiting 2020-21 Season

A thread below has been locked for some reason. If anyone knows about steps taken by MSHSL related to the allegations directed toward St. Thomas please share. Or if you can confirm it being a non-story because rules have been followed that too. Not a non-story, but one that takes time to work throu...

Re: NTDP tryout invitations

Out of curiousity, how would Manz be able to open enroll back to MSHSL? Would he have to sit out a year like Blake? If his parents move out of their current ISD to another is he free to transfer to any HS he pleases? Not any HS, but he could enroll at either the public school for the new area in wh...

Re: Shots on net - Stats Youth Hockey

Must be a Minnesota thing...most out of state competitive teams (Tier I and Tier II) are required to keep and publish stats through the state's USA Hockey affiliate. Most? I've done my time with 5 years as VP of the USA Hockey affiliate where I lived. My son has also played in another state, plus a...

Re: Shots on net - Stats Youth Hockey

My attitude about shots at any level is if you want them tracked go ahead. Why people that want them counted ask people who don't give a flying flip can only be described as laziness. Must be a Minnesota thing...most out of state competitive teams (Tier I and Tier II) are required to keep and publi...

Shots on net - Stats Youth Hockey

New to MN Hockey...can someone help me understand why District/League games don't require scorekeepers to keep track of shots on net? Coming from outside of MN...home teams are required to keep these stats for all youth hockey games above mites. I totally understand the desire to de-emphasize stats ...

Re: Cloquet Goalie Quits team

Let's face it, goaltenders are usually people who march to the beat of a different drummer. It's almost a requirement given the stresses of the position. I have never been surprised by any decision a goalie makes. My observation is based on being the parent of a former high school goaltender. the w...

Re: Jackson Blake

all the more reason for any player to opt out of mn high school hockey.... any league that puts restrictions on a person that wants to play and compete is a league that should be disbanded. if a kid wants to play in mn high school league he/she should be able to do so. it is time to get rid of the ...

Re: 218 - Minnesota Wilderness U18 goes 4-0

As a MN native who just recently returned to MN...with some hockey playing kids. It's sure impressive the number of competitive teams the state can produce. Absolutely love seeing MN "rag-tag" teams with mismatched socks/helmets/gloves/breezers and reusable jerseys with no names, competing against $...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

But does a July 1st cut-off help those same kids integrate into the rest of the country and life after MN Hockey?. Love the MN Community based model, but the age cut-off and pompous attitude of "our way is best" isn't going to help anyone develop. An older 9th grader who is not ready for high school...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

OK...am I missing something here? I hear people say birth year cutoffs would never work in MN but if I recall correctly, it worked for many years prior to the switch. I was a 69 and the 68's in my grade were always one year ahead of me. We survived...in fact it was great getting to know kids outside...
