Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

https://www.startribune.com/the-scariest-team-to-watch-for-in-the-boys-hockey-state-tournament/600039959/ David La Vaque posted an episode of the "Talkin Preps" podcast on Twitter just this afternoon, where veteran high school hockey coach Ted Cheesebrough gives his thoughts on Gentry BEAUTIFULLY! ...

Re: Hill-Murray Update

Let me state first as a hockey fan, I feel horrible for the HM players and coaches. I wish there was a way to make this game happen. It sounds like there maybe was, I don't know. I don't work for the MSHSL so I can't really comment. It sounds like the cancellation of today's game is possibly an MDH ...

Re: Section 4AA 20-21

Including sections Lleyton Roed had a total of 52 points this season, if he doesn't come back the next highest point total returning would be Ethan Moerke who had a total of 14 points this year. Besides Roed and Moerke the Bears only return 3 players who scored a goal, Tyler Bishop is the only othe...

Pride of the East Side. It will be exactly what MN needs. Lol a kid from the mansions in Still/Woodbury area probably isn't the pride of the "East Side" meaning ESTP, but I hope he represents the east metro well for the Gophers! I ended up hoping for Hill to win the state tournament in the end afte...

Re: Recruiting 2020-21 Season

I think there's a bit of hyperbole with this topic happening here. I don't like seeing transfers as much as anyone and thought what EP did this year was pretty gross given they have one of the largest enrollments in the state, but for people to act like community based hockey is gone is laughable. ...

Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

There are too many "upsets" to count for my favorite team. I think the one that stands out to me most recently would be 2005 when WBL, led by Ryan Braun and David Grun got upended by unranked Duluth East. That was Justin Braun and now playing for the Flyers in the NHL. Whoops, I meant Justin Braun....

Re: Minnesota Hockey state tournaments

Cancelled or postponed? What if the outbreak is under control after the weekend or later, would they still run the tourneys the next weekend or just flat out cancelled? It won't be under control in a short period. The whole reason a lot of the delays are two weeks to a month is because that is how ...

Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

Enjoy reading all the stories and fun going down memory lane. I probably should have labeled the thread where does mahtomedi’s upset rank? (In the past 10 year.... give or take). I feel like people in years to follow will may forget due to it being 3 vs 4 matchup but honestly, Saturday morning had ...

Charlie Strobel

Congrats to him on committing to the University of Minnesota.

I loved the way he plays and his leadership I saw from him in the games against WBL and tourney. Tons of respect for that kid and best of luck to him.

Interesting he's going to the U after his connections to Wisco.

Re: Hill-Murray vs St. Thomas Academy - Semi-Final Friday

Nice comeback by St. Thomas after looking like Hill was going to repeat what they did to Moorhead. They seemed to adjust to Hill's forecheck after having a hard time getting out of there own end clean early. Also their D did a good job of keeping Pierre in front of them. We thought that St. Thomas ...

Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

I’m going to butcher this, and perhaps someone with a better recollection can tell it more accurately. 2010-2011 season, MN Hockey Hub did a four part series titled Becoming a Pioneer . I remember thinking that was a really cool, in-depth look at a program (and something they should do every year w...

Of all the great HM-WBL games that 2006 Section final was the best. HM was 25-1-1, but had not been to State in 3 years. WBL returned much of the team from what was the best team in the State in 2005. However the curse continued and they had lost to Duluth East in the State quarterfinals. Both team...

There was talk the Sager is done coaching at the section finals last Friday. Anybody have the scoop? There is always talk about Sager being done after this familiar scene plays out. He's 2-7 vs Hill-Murray in Section Finals. https://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii2/ndmndad/20200302_173843%20640x360_...

Sparlimb, being a HM fan, you have to know Jake Guentzel the Pittsburgh Penguins star, played at HM. His dad, Mike grew up in my hometown of Marble in Greenway country. I used to drop the Mpls. Sun. Tribune on the doorstep of Mike's parents' house when I was a young buck. Mike was a great player fo...

I also enjoy Sweet Lou from the Sioux. At his age & as many years as he's done this the boyish enthusiasm & excitement are still there. I believe you mean Sweet Lou from the Soo (or Sault). The guy doing the games on TV is a Gopher through and through. Definitely not from the Sioux! You're right O-...

Re: Out State Recruitment -- STA this year and going forward

It's clearly not a private school only issue. It's also not always an in state/out of state issue. It's also not an every kid issue. There are some circumstances that it is clearly a circumvention of the rules or a player just chasing a championship, but there are definitely scenarios in which the p...

Re: State Tournament Times

Because the High School League wants to run two sessions to get some extra money into the coffers by selling two sets of tickets. Starting the second session at 6 gives them time to clear the arena. Even starting the second game at 2:00, baring overtimes, they should be done 4 or 4:30ish, giving th...

Interesting about the RV thing too as the Anderson's dad was a JV coach for Roseville for multiple years in the mid 2000's...certainly they likely knew about the kids and their potential? Probably -- But from all accounts I have heard it wasn't a contentious situation. I think the Anderson's dad wa...

What's the story there? My sources say they approached the Roseville coach about them playing varsity as 8th/7th graders, where they both would have probably been top players with a bullet. Don't know who or where the determination was made but it was frowned upon. Without options they went to Hill...

Definitely cheering for Blake. They're a Minneapolis school with a good amount of Minneapolis kids, I'll just ignore that they pay 26k a year for school.
Spoiler alert: the ones on the ice don't all pay that.

I don't have any "hate" either. I just look at it as a lack of vested interest. Some of that was lost when my WBL bears couldn't hold their lead, rest of it was lost with the QF results. I sincerely hope all these star players go on to do great things because I think it's good for high school hockey...

Re: top AA players to watch

I'd like to see the interview. Would be surprised if he was complaining...I'd also add that it is a little awkward that Lakeville South (or North) so frequently makes it to the X each year. Watching them get destroyed by EP here in the Quarters kind of emphasizes it as well. Gleason is right though...

True. But I try to often point out we are one of the few programs that doesn't discriminate based on geography. We accept all kids no matter what youth system they grew up in... Roseville didn't have Joey or Mikey Anderson long at all either (although that was their own fault in this instance, but ...
