Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament
Returning to the transfer discussion. I'm wondering what the downside of abolishing the transfer rule would be. Obviously this doesn't exist for academics (does it?). Imagine your kid is a talented actor, you transfer the child to a school with a highly renowned program before his/her junior year, ...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament
MSHSL needs to crack down on all of these girls hopping from team to team. Full disclosure, I don't know what happened at Breck last year but how were all of those girls eligible to play this year for a new school? (In Messner's case, swapping teams mid-season?!?) I'm not positive, but I thought I ...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament
In regard to the player movement, I agree with this 100% as well. My son went through the high school game a few years back and I thought the "gray area" and player movement was bad on the boys side. Then when Emma started playing at BSM, oy vey. Infinitely worse with the player movement o...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament
The MSHSL has all the ability and flexibility it needs. I laid out the path in an earlier post. Simply have a northern section and a southern, and you rank the remaining 48 AA teams and place them in 6 metro-area sections. MSHSL gets what it wants...a northern and southern team in the state tourname...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament
Maybe even 5 of them, if Blake were at full strength for the full season. Wins against Wayzata (and Sibley) likely, and possible against Gentry (game 3) and Holy Family. In the theoretical in which they are 3-1 in those games (rather than 0-4), 4-7 state rankings likely BSM, Holy Family, Blake, Way...

Re: 2022 Class AA State Tournament
In terms of other sections, you'll have to talk to the MSHSL about that - they've never cared about competitive parity. They see 9-0, 7-0, and 5-0 quarterfinal scores in AA hockey and think "yay! arbitrary geographic boundaries were all represented!"
100% correct on this ...

Re: Scoring by top HS players - grades 12, 11, 10 and 9
No doubt - she's had a great season. And it's unclear when it will be over - may be 5 more. Huge part of one of the best teams in MN. Some would say they got off to a "slow" start, but their first 5 games were Andover, Warroad, Stillwater, Wayzata and Edina. Not many "stat padding&qu...

Re: Scoring by top HS players - grades 12, 11, 10 and 9
I'm big into numbers, and always have been. Love this spreadsheet. One thing--Emma was moved to defense after 5 games this year. In 2 games at D against top-10 teams, she's got 1-3---4 and in 5 games against teams ranked 11-20, she's at 5-7--12. A total of 16 points in 7 games playing defense agains...

Re: Scoring by top seniors
This is 100% accurate. After covering MN high school hockey as a writer for 12 years and then watching Dylan and now Emma go through it, my question has always remained the same when it comes to points....especially those kept on the Hub site....don't tell me how many points you have, tell me who yo...

54s rosters are out. With the kids playing in the nationals not being allowed to compete in the 54s, it makes for some shakeups this weekend at Fogerty.

Two biggest "winners" in AA, at least in the short term, have got to be Cretin and NWC.

6AA
1-Edina - Bye
2-BSM
3-Wayzata
4-Blake
5-CDH
6-Minnehaha
7-Hopkins
No real surprises although I thought Hopkins had an argument for the 6 spot.
Quarters on Tuesday; Semis on Thursday; Final on Saturday.

Most are being done via email chains/zoom calls tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday. All depends on when teams are done with regular season games.

Re: Section seedings
Regarding 6AA, Blake deserves 4 and CDH 5. Blake has 2 fewer wins against a much more difficult schedule. Doesn’t make a ton of difference aside from where Tuesday’s game will be played. Also, winner tonight at PIC will most likely get the 2 and get to host Thursday’s rematch in the semis. Also, Edi...

MNHOCKEY Tweaks Girls HP
A few weeks ago Mn Hockey made a quiet adjustment to the girls' HP 17 program for this spring, provided there will be one. This year, 2003 birth years currently juniors in high school, will be allowed to tryout and compete with the 2004s. The exact wording from MNHOCK: New this year, 2003 born playe...

Dead period extended....again
As many probably already have heard/read, the NCAA announced this week the recruiting dead period for all Division 1 sports has been extended until at least May 31. The NCAA stated it would provide an update no later than April 15.

Re: BSM/Tonka
Edina/BSM was a pretty even game. Took BSM a handful of shifts to get up to speed, but once they did, they had as many if not more great scoring chances. Shots, for what it’s worth, favored BSM 28-27. Carly and Uma were both outstanding. The GWG came on somewhat of a busted play but credit to Z for ...

Re: BSM/Tonka
Tremendous game all around. Officials let the athletes play and the intensity was pretty high from the opening faceoff. Through two periods BSM didn't allow a thing. Skippers had 11 shots on the scoreboard but that seemed pretty generous, not that it matters. Just an opinion but it seemed as though ...

Re: Running it Up...
Not knowing anything but the score/shots, here is my unvarnished opinion. The Orono coaches had to have known how the game would play out. If they didn't, they are not doing their jobs. Knowing that the game is gonna be lopsided, to type the least, I am dressing as many "float line" kids a...

Re: Week 3 game of the week
Hill-Murray outlasts Benilde-St. Margaret's 3-1. BSM had slightly more of the play on their side, but both teams had chances. BSM's Haag missed on 3 different breakaways, which likely was the difference. Hill-Murray is playing a freshman goalie, Grace Zahn, and she was outstanding today... On to Ed...

Re: Week 3 game of the week
Will be interesting to see how the HF/Edina plays out. After games against Orono, Gentry and New Prague, the Hornets should be a step up in competition for the Fire.
