Need some fairly reliable forward looking gossip - to help keep the off season interesting

MinnScout usually has some good info by May 1, anything to report ?
Personally, I thought last "off-season" was extremely "interesting" around here...

In odd fashion the Elks have been assigned to section 7 for football which clearly will lead to an East/ER neutral site matchup in the playoffs.
Duluth East plays football???

Pete May have voted against it, too.
I don’t recall.
Voted against what specifically? The eligibility rule allowing for playing where you attend school? Or, to retain the old rule of play where you live?

Re: MINNESOTA YOUTH HOCKEY - ANNUAL MEETING

Elliott, how about we conduct a statewide survey of all of the association presidents as to whether or not they would support a proposal to go back to the previous eligibility rule of play where you live? Make it anonymous if that helps improve the response rate. And then, if the responses are 75% ...

Re: Section Realignment

One thing that struck me up north is Duluth Marshall continuing to opt up to AA. Wise has proven to be an excellent coach (and at the college level, to boot), and I’m sure they have longer term visions, but I figured DM would be tired of taking beatings and drop back down for a while to gain some t...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Puck, I’m genuinely happy for you and your player if the fit at Gentry is working as well as you say. It’s also great to hear that you and others there would keep their players at Gentry even without the extra ice opportunities. I agree with your assessment that the style of play Gentry is emphasizi...

Great discussion...First to Puck, I really appreciate the detailed info about Gentry that you've provided. I've definitely learned a lot. I also commend you for how you've handled any negative comments or criticisms. You haven't taken anything in a personal manner -- at least, it doesn't seem as tho...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

This parent is not saying it's 4 plus hours a day but, it's often as much as between 2-3 hours per day. If you're talking about only ice time during the school day, this is incorrect. If you're including after-school team practices / game to the amount of time, you are correct on certain days. Jg.....

Re: HS Hockey Conn Smythe

Wise -- Fully agree with your sentiment if we are looking at any grade level. If this list is made of only seniors, it makes sense for Batchelder. Blake was the missing ingredient that changed EP from a really good team to an Elite team. They did not lose when he was healthy and playing. He is a fu...

Re: HS Hockey Conn Smythe

Based on a discussion we had on our season finale podcast, I figured I'd start a thread on potential winners of a playoff-specific high school hockey award. (Danny has graciously suggested we name this the Pat White Memorial Award, though at last check Pat was still alive and kicking.) In honor of ...

Re: Honor seedings and bracket integrity

MSHSL should honor seedings they oversee for tourney. Instead of unseeded team (Wayzata) getting bye to semifinals, they should give bye to #1 seed (EP) and have STA and Wayzata (other two unseeded teams) play seeded MG and Andover. This is common sense, though, so MSHSL won’t do it. They didn't do...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Look, the bottom line is Gentry should not be allowed to exist in the MSHSL. It is no secret that their entire existence revolves around recruiting kids specifically to play hockey at their school. EVERYONE knows it. Elite prospects says a lot of kids on their roster come from out of state, as far ...

Re: Hill-Murray Update

I sympathize with Hill Murray and other sports teams that are not allowed to compete. They earned this opportunity, only to have it snatched away through bureaucratic overreach, in my opinion. According to the CDC, in the under age 18 demographic, there have been 238 deaths "involving" Covid in 202...

Except they're not. If there is literally one thing everyone in society has learned during this pandemic it's that rule application is *never* equal or consistent. Re: Class A QF - Dodge County vs Hermantown

A bounce here or there in the HT direction and it would have been a really interesting game. Four of the first five goals were very weak. Not to be too harsh on the starter but, If they’d have started the other kid, Hermantown might’ve actually won. Valiant effort by Zam. Showed great class at the ...

Re: Hermantown JV to play Dodge Co.

Sounds like maybe a re-seeding should be in order. Hard to imagine Hermantown JV being a #1 Seed. Not happening at this late stage. Too many moving parts. In the Twitter thread from Sam Ali, there is a post from what is ostensibly a Hermantown parent and/or coach: "Wait till you hear the whole stor...

Re: Hermantown JV to play Dodge Co.

Question: If Hermantown’s JV beats Dodge County, doesn’t that forever end the argument that they should be playing AA (like their youth teams; both Hermantown Bantam and Peewee AA teams made state tournament this year, by the way). Yeah, but the PW AAs went 0-2 and the Bantam AAs went 1-2. However,...

Re: FROM LPH PEEWEE A RANKINGS

Proctor belongs on this list. Probably in the top 10. They literally have 4-5 top level AA players on their roster. That's great, they also are only a .500 team (9-8-1), have a few bad losses (Superior and Greenway), and the teams they have beat have a combined record of 29-116-2... Wise Old Man wi...
