Re: Mike Randolph out at St. Thomas Academy

Best of luck to Mike but never understood the hire in the first place given his age and where he was living. Coaches should be around their schools for summer camps etc. I think it is too easy for outsiders to blame this on parents because they don't know what they are talking about. I had two sons...

Re: Mike Randolph out at St. Thomas Academy

Too Bad the Hermantown role isn't open. He could go there and move the club up to AA  It's a rainy Thursday and we need a bit of humor today in this dreary day I like Jago and Johnson, but how safe are their jobs at this point? You can bet the folks at Marshall are also in the mix too. An inte...

Re: Mike Randolph out at St. Thomas Academy

I think this was done in kind of a lousy way and look upon pretty much everything St. Thomas Academy does with disfavor. But even though standing alone this probably wouldn't justify letting him go. . . the idea that having a coach live over two hours away is a problem strikes me as somewhat reason...

Re: Official 2024-25 Coaching Changes

I'd be interested in the "pool" of candidates that you know of - please share. There were kids looking to leave prior to Friedli being hired - if he can keep a couple great, i'm sure he is reaching out to the ones he wants to keep (some i'm sure doesn't) - The CCHA bantams would have no e...

Re: Official 2024-25 Coaching Changes

HF - New coach Zach Friedli - Former assistant coach and D coach at Chan HS and CCHA youth hockey coach. Really solid hire for HF. Thanks for the update! They return a lot of juniors and had a very strong JV. At least the cupboard isn't bare. Who says this is a solid hire? If what I’m hearing is co...

Re: The Rise of the North in Coming Years?

Outside of Hibbing looking at the youth I think Delano is your other best bet. Others in mix: Thief River Falls, Northfield, Northern Lakes, Monitcello looking at recent youth hockey results over the past 4 years. The game changer is that while those teams has all had success at the A youth level H...

Tweets from St. Cloud sports reporter Andy Rennecke: "After 3-4 days of state hockey, I’ve got to note how well Cathedral handles themselves in press conferences. Same for Warroad head coach and Northfield head coach and players. I wish I could say the same thing about Hermantown’s head coach....

Re: 2024 AA tourney

I think what some people are saying is the rich are getting richer. We can agree or disagree but those that can and will recruit are going to have a huge advantage over the rest of the teams who can't or won't. But we all have to admit Minnesota HS hockey is in a transition from what used to be a z...

Re: 2024 AA State Tournament Seedings

If they win on Friday, does Hill Murray have a claim to the #3? Had one hiccup to Two Rivers; otherwise their losses in '24 have been to Tonka, Benilde & Edina. Also just smacked Maple Grove 2 weeks ago. Hill Murray a 3 seed…. Phew. AA pretty down this year after the big 3 in the Lake and Chan....

Re: On a lighter note -- Odd MSHSL Transfer Policy

Who cares? The kid played football and wrestled (his brother too) at EP until this season. He’s already gotten his schollies so maybe they moved for legit reasons or maybe they’ve lived in Shakopee the entire time. Not saying I know the details, but if you play within the rules there’s not much tha...

Re: 2024 Girls State High School Hockey Tournament

Hmmm…. Hate the Hornets but gotta respect the hustle, coaching and how they just handle business. 5 state title’s for their young coach which is pretty amazing. Anyone else notice Hill’s captain #21 take her 2nd place medal off and throw it on the ice? I’m guessing a coach quickly told her to class ...

Re: Playoff Games Saturday 2/24/24

The penalty that resulted in the 4th Tonka goal on the PP was Charmin soft. The goalkeeper was yapping with the ref during the ensuing faceoff, then decided to take a frustration penalty late. Left early. I gave the “money” sign with both hands before leaving in disgust. There was a woman working t...

Re: Playoff Games Saturday 2/24/24

I should have stuck around EP/Tonka to ask the refs what the going rate was for a Tonka penalty. Talk about one sided. Maybe the lead scriptwriter knew, or left it to the refs to decide? Rarely gripe about the refs, but holy smokes from the opening puck drop it was really insane. The cross checks r...

It's also the 2nd year in a row they've failed to make the section semis. Seeing their coaching staff, perhaps help is coming with Sylvia & some buddies. Sylvia has been around for a few years now while it’s Crowley’s first year. With both having kids moving into the HF system maybe they’re set...

Re: Coaching Changes 2024-25 - Official Thread

Any chance HF could lure Noel Rahn back? Seems like that program has been in a tail spin since he left. I know him and the old AD didn’t see eye to eye. There’s no reason for him to come back. I thought he rode off into the sunset once his kid graduated. I don’t see any reason why he’d want to jump...

I am still curious to see how will Section 2 Seeds 3&4 shake out, and games like today may have an impact Shakopee -- 16-3-1, but a Charmin soft schedule. 3-3 likely in Section play, have 1 top 10 win in Rosemount EP -- 12-6-1 with the brutal Lake Conference tilt 2-2 likely in Section play have...

Re: AA Rankings for 1/28/24

Don’t get me wrong, Edina definitely looked like the better team but that 5 minute major on EP was a killer. It was 1-1 and 3 minutes later was 5-1 Hornets after scoring 4 during the length of the penalty. It showed in the Wayzata game as well, but Edina is freakishly accurate on their shots. They s...
