No, nothing posted on any forum is going to make a coach quit but it does provide for some insight into what people base opinions of coaches on. Those of us who have never been behind a varsity bench tend to have lots of opinions on how to be successful and why some coaches are or are not. And I dou...

The past 10 years Cretin has had to compete with some pretty good Roseville, Stillwater and now Hill-Murray teams in the section. In that time period section 4AA has won 5 state titles, 2 second place and 1 third place finishes. They did win the section in 08' and took 3rd place at state that year. ...

I guess the Stillwater players just wanted to thank the huge fan contingent that was there supporting them. Not sure you need a real good hockey mind or be real smart to figure that one out. Great game by both teams. Loved seeing the student sections on both sides going crazy all game. It was a clas...

Didn't say girls game needed to be live on TV. Not having any girls games as a part of the lineup is a horrible decision by organizers of HDM. I get the ratings and all that stuff but is that all this is about? FSN already knows they dropped the ball on leaving out the girls. They and Wild have take...

Agreed, leaving the girls out of hockey day Minnesota makes it "Boys" hockey day. The Wild need to right this in the future, it is insulting to all girls who play hockey.

Most girls HS games are Tuesday and Saturday. If for some reason teams don't have a Saturday game most will practice.

High school varsity and JV play 25 games schedules not 20. Also they are skating 6 days a week the whole season. If not playing a game they are practicing.

Yes you are right, that was the policy for Stillwater the past couple of seasons. Trying to be inline with all the other schools in the SEC that have allowed 8th and some 7th on JV. Only ones who didn't allow 8th graders on JV was Stillwater and Cretin. All others have allowed them to play JV. Not s...

Only school I know of that doesn't allow 8th graders on the East side is Stillwater and that is no longer the case. You can tryout if you are an 8th grader this season.

Agreed the best players are usually on the ice more, because they are the best athletes. "What genetic science is showing us is that the more important part of talent — and certainly of endurance – is the ability to respond to training, the biological setup that makes you train better than your peer...

A lot of the pressure of moving the younger 7th & 8th graders is being fueled by overanxious parents, not coaches. Parents who feel the younger they make the varsity the better the chance for greater things later. Unfortunately it doesn't often work that way. Everyone has an opinion as to what the b...

Teams can practice all they want as long as a coach isn't present during the blackout. There is nothing wrong with that. Coaches can only have contact until July 31st and then not until the season starts. You can contact athletes all you want with texts, emails and phone, you just can't "coach" them...

This started in the summer of 2010 requiring all coaches who work with athletes during the summer must sign a summer contact waiver and abide by a week long blackout period. The black out date is not optional, all coaches must not have any contact with players.

Interesting to note that of the eight 8th graders on the HM JV in 10-11 only 2 made it to the varsity by senior year. But they also get new players each year coming in as 9th graders and sometimes 10th. Simple math, you can't keep them all.

Of course HM does, they have no youth feeder association to work with. Any private school would be foolish not to.

So why would a boys program want to develop a female goalie for the girls program over their current goalies? Doubt any boys HS coach that is fed by that hockey association would approve of that. Maybe an association that lacks goalies on the boys side, otherwise it doesn't make sense for them to do...

Oh, the good ole days. Is this what all players go through now or is this an exception? Is it where you play that determines your future successes? Does the "development" of the player also rely on this? I believe my kids got to the level they did because of a great work ethic and desire to be good....

If she is going onto a high level U14 team, this would be her best option in my opinion. She could build on many things she would not get on a HS team. Playing with players her own age, develop great relationships and a strong chemistry that gives her a memorable experience and possibly builds on so...

Spend less time and money playing in leagues and games in the offseason and more time working on general athletic skills. Great interview yesterday on radio yesterday with hockey agent Neil Sheehy who stated the best athletes are the best hockey players. Save your money.

How do you compare bottom 5 in conferences when the lake conference only has 5 teams total?? The suburban east has 9 and was 10 until this year when Hastings dropped out. I lake is obviously strong not arguing that.

Actually Mounds View has gone recently to state in 2012 and 2014 both as a 3 seed in their section. In 2013 as the #1 seed they were upset in section final by Irondale. They play in the suburban east conference which is not weak by any standards.

I am also not sure how moving Cretin out of 4AA and adding Mounds View and Irondale strengthens the section. Mounds View and Irondale are good teams but Cretin seems to be an up and coming program which was very strong this year. Cretin was a top 10 team all year. Saying HM will now have to earn its...
