I saw the news too. It said "not hockey related" and it also said that it was not related to the hazing incident.

stereotype
Is it a stereotype or is it a fact??

There are always going to be exceptions to the rule but for the most part minority kids do not choose hockey. Maybe the paper-writer should go and interview a bunch of kids and find out why they chose the sport that they chose. He/She can report back to u...

hockey $
Personally, I like the spin and humor. This thread gave me a great laugh for the day.

My opinion? I think it is a cost thing. It's not just the availability of an arena. It's skates, pads, helmets, breezers, etc. etc. etc. You have to have a lot of extra income to support a hockey player in t...

areas
Bauler and McDonough lived in the old Rosemount attendance area. McDonough lives by Hartung, Plaszcz, Brigl, and Marple (past EV players). They were all in the Rosemount attendance area. They played youth hockey for AV, however, because they live in Apple Valley. (Actually Marple played for Rsmt. yo...

Rosemount
I think everyone felt bad for Rosemount at first. It isn't fair that they have always had to bear the brunt of new school openings. It happened in the 70's with AV opening. Then, they lost a bunch when Eagan opened, then EV. Not fair. They are always trying to catch up. If it makes you feel any bett...

history
One more thing...I think the confusion comes in because of the association hockey. A lot of the kids that lived in the Eastview attendance area played hockey for the Apple Valley Youth Association. They were not slotted to be Apple Valley High School kids (they lived in the Rosemount attendance area...

boundaries
Eastview is in the city of Apple Valley but was built to help the crowding in Rosemount and Eagan. I was on the committee that helped draw the boundaries. I know very well exactly how it went. The Apple Valley High School boundaries were not touched. There was a lot of open enrollment going on back ...

You are wroing 98irish. Apple Valley High School lost zero kids to Eastview High School. When the boundaries were changed Eastview's kids came from Rosemount and Eagan-none from Apple Valley.

The youth associations were a different matter, like I said, but Rosemount couldn't wait to get rid o...

AV/EV
Eastview never SPLIT from Apple Valley. When Eastview H.S. boundaries were drawn they pulled kids from Rosemount and Eagan high schools. None came from Apple Valley High School even though Eastview is in the city of Apple Valley. The youth associations were a different matter though.

Eastvie...

Cloquet
T,
I don't know for sure. I heard the Cloquet scrimmages were on Nov.18 and 19th but I'm not sure whether or not EV is going this year. I wonder if anyone from Cloquet knows???

Eastview
Eastview usually goes to Cloquet and Moorhead before the season starts. Gibbons usually plays everyone equally though. It isn't like a real game situation or anything. Besides that, a couple of their best players are still playing football this year. I don't know what will happen with that.

<...

Title IX
I graduated in the early 70's in a metro suburban school district in a class of over 500 kids (school had over 1,600) before Title IX. It was before girl's sports were added. (Well, there might have been in-house gymnastics) They started adding girl's sports right after I graduated. I'm not kidding ...

girls in sports
When I was in H.S. in the seventies there was NOTHING for the girls. The boys had a team for all sports. The girls had after school intermural sports and that was it. There were no competitions against other schools at all. Title IX fixed this. You are right that girls don't bring in big admission b...

Title 9
My kid (son) played at the Xcel for the holiday tournament a few years ago. He was thrilled to be playing there but I didn't really like it. It was empty! I'd rather have it at Aldrich or some arena that is filled. Just me. I don't think it's a boy/girl thing. The state tournament is another thing. ...

pep band
I think it would be nice to at least have a few horns and a drum at every game. Couldn't a few kids just get together and go to the game?? Or is that against the law too?

musical chairs
I agree with your musical chairs comment. It would be difficult to change it up every year but it seems that there could be some change on a regular, systematic basis. Personally, now that my kids are done playing hockey, I just go to watch different teams play anyway. I would love to watch some dif...

catagorizing?
I wouldn't be in favor of catagorizing or segregating teams either, just mixing it up once in awhile. What's wrong with that? I think it would be great to see AHA face Elk River or Eden Prairie or White Bear Lake in sections. Why not? Let Hill Murray play Edina or North St. Paul face Apple Valley. N...

So you think that if Trebil was forced to coach say...Mayberry, then they would be contenders?? I agree that coaching has a lot to do with it but not THAT much!! No offense Mayberry!

tournament
I, for one, don't care who is in the state tournament. I don't even care if AHA wins it every year! What I would like to see is the section matches mixed up so that the opportunity to go isn't sucked up by the same team in a given section every year. If AHA is going to come out the sections a winner...
